Behr Funeral Home was founded by Norbert and Mary Behr and opened for business in October of 1936, at 1832 Central Avenue in Dubuque. In 1948, they purchased the Alexander Young Home, which remains our current location, at 1491 Main Street. In 1974 their daughter, Kathy (Behr) Conlon, joined them as a licensed funeral director.
Her son, Kevin, has also followed in their footsteps and is now a third generation funeral director. We are a full service funeral home providing traditional services, as well as cremation and memorial services. We can also accommodate your family with services at your place of worship if you desire.

Services
Originally built in 1879, the house served as a private residence for the Alexander Young family and subsequently for the John Bell family, until it became the Behr Funeral Home in 1948. Our funeral home is one of the many homes and businesses in Dubuque that were designed by Fridolin J. Heer, Sr., a Swiss born master stonecutter and architect.
We are a small family owned and operated funeral home. As you will see below, we are real people with families and hobbies just like you. We are a close knit group and everyone helps out. It is not even unusual to see Kevin and Nancy's children hanging out and helping with small jobs. Our entire staff is devoted to serving others and are honored to have the opportunity to assist those who are grieving in our community.
Our family at Behr's would like to extend a most appreciative and heart-felt thank you to all the families we've had the privilege of serving over the years. We humbly devote our lives to helping others through some of their darkest hours. Our mission to help those hurting in our community is more than just a career to us; it's a lifestyle.
Many of life's important events require some degree of planning and consideration: a wedding, children, retirement. These events usually impact not just the individual but his or her family members as well, and we find comfort in including those we love in major life decisions. End-of-life and funeral planning should be no different.
At Behr's we are ordinary human beings, just like you, committing our lives to the performance of extraordinary acts in the name of service. After three generations of practicing and perfecting our craft, we've learned and developed many valuable character traits. These attributes have proven to definitively produce the highest quality of standards in helping those who are grieving.

A few members of my family had their services through Behr Funeral Home. The staff is friendly and did a very nice job making my family members presentable for viewing. Not only were the deceased well taken care of, but so were the rest of the family throughout the process. The Funeral Home is a very nice 19th century mansion with plenty of parking both on and off street.
