The beam is directed over the area to be treated, where it speeds up the reproduction of healthy new cells by increasing the action of ATP (adenosphine triphosphate), the cell's energy. The increased cellular metabolism allows the cells to take in nutrients faster and get rid of wastes sooner. This can affect the fluid and cartilage in the joints, helping to decrease pain and swelling.
You may feel that if there's nothing wrong with your pet, there's no reason to take them in for a checkup, but regular checkups are important for detecting any emerging issues and preventing more extensive and costly treatment down the road. Early detection for life-threatening illnesses such as cancer could make the difference in keeping your pet around for years to come.
The skin is the largest organ and can be an indicator of many internal diseases. We can diagnose and manage skin diseases caused by allergies, parasites, bacteria, fungus, hormones or autoimmune issues. Signs of a dermatological problem include hair loss, a dull coat, skin irritation, licking, itching, head shaking, scratching, sores and ear infections.
Riverwalk Animal Hospital has a board-certified surgeon available and is fully equipped to perform surgery on your pet if needed - for both emergency and scheduled procedures. We use advanced anesthesia monitoring and are meticulous about pain prevention for your pet. Laser surgery is available for some procedures.
Dental health is important to your pet's overall health, and we recommend you have your pet's teeth checked once a year. Dental problems can cause - or be caused - by other health problems. Periodontal disease is a common dental condition in dogs and cats, and it's likely that by the time your pet is 3 years old they will have some early signs of periodontal disease, which will continue to worsen if not treated.

I have an animal sanctuary on Daufuskie Island, and have taken many animals to Dr. Mitchum at this veterinary practice. I have always been 100 percent satisfied! All the veterinarians and staff are caring, efficient, and responsive. Dr. Mitchum is really in a league by himself. He's diagnosed and treated some some very tough cases, and is gentle and thorough with all pets...even cranky feral cats. The rates are reasonable, and the staff always works to get in a very sick cat or dog. I highly, highly recommend Riverwalk Animal Hospital.

Excellent care for my sick kitty. Got her in right away, had to leave her there for tests, but they kept me posted on what was going on. Loved Dr Jennah Rains. Kind, caring and compassionate, took the time to introduce herself and talk to us, and did not rush..Kitty, BELLA, is doing great, back to her normal self. I highly recommend Riverwalk 💜

I've been here a few times with my kitties and Dr. O'Quinn has been great every time. The vet techs have also been so nice and caring with my cats. When my boy needed some expensive diagnostic tests, they were kind and gave me a bit of time to figure out what we could afford and never made me feel like a bad pet parent for not being able to drop half a grand at the time. Each time we've visited Dr. O'Quinn has taken time to speak to me about the cat's overall health and possible options for treatment without rushing us through. Also every time we've been they've run on time which is much appreciated

I have been looking for a knowledgeable veterinarian to care for our dog that has special needs. I haven't been fully satisfied with other veterinarian clinics in the area, but this clinic was different. They were kind, compassionate, and understanding. I plan to continue to use Dr. Baker for all my fur babies!

Dr Mitchum is the most gentle caring Veterinarian I have ever met! Recently we had to say goodbye to our love of 18 years, Miss Capers. Dr Mitchum could not have been more compassionate to her needs ...or mine. He went out of his way to make her as comfortable as possible and treated her with such respect...just like family....which is what she was to us. He even took the time to write me the sweetest note...such a kind heart. He and his staff are just amazing and we can not thank them all enough for taking such good care of us during such a difficult time.

I lost all respect for the this vet when I took my brand new rescue puppy for come medical concerns. As I was waiting in the waiting room I could hear the vet and her staff literally making fun of my poor puppy through the thin walls. I remember exact words of this is what you get for not getting a pure bred.
I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Heartless

We just moved to Bluffton (two weeks in SC) and had an emergency with our cat (snake bite) I called the vet a 1/2 mile down the road explaining we had just moved here, their answer was sorry we can see her on Monday which would have been in 3 days.... I called Riverwalk and I am so happy I did. Dr. O'Quinn's and staff were kind, understanding and had us bring her right in. Thanks to their caring, prompt care we still have our sweet kitty. Excellent care, clean, and very affordable boarding.

THE BEST TEAM!!! Dr, Carver along with Dr. Mitchum performed eye surgery on our 10 year old puggle and removed an olive sized growth from her eyelid. Two weeks later the stitches are out and she looks fantastic. Another local vet wanted to refer our puggle to a canine ophthalmologist in Charleston or Savannah. (big $$$) We received 5 phone calls within 2 weeks from Riverwalk to see how Nellie was healing. Riverwalk Animal Hospital has the best caring team in SC! We are so fortunate to have found these amazing Veterinarians.

I've used Riverwalk for ten years and am very satisfied with their professionals and care of my dog. Their costs are on the high side for the area, but as long as my dog is well taken care of, I'm not complaining. My dog has never had any serious issues, so I cannot comment on their ability in this regard.
