Founded in 1978 by John Harnly, P.E., Foundation Design, P.C. is a professional corporation located in Rochester, New York. During the first 20 years, Our Firm maintained steady slow growth, increasing from a sole proprietor to a staff of six people. In 2001, ownership of Foundation Design, P.C. transitioned to in-house staff members James Baker, P.E. and Jeffrey Netzband, P.E.
Services have expanded from geotechnical engineering consultation to include geotechnical instrumentation, in-house lab testing services, vibration monitoring, and SWPPP inspections. We work with the owner and the building and site designers to ensure our projects are founded on solid ground. Our holistic approach implements our mission statement; Striving to identify soils issues before they become problems for our clients.

The commercial/retail sector continues to expand. Foundation Design, P.C. has provided geotechnical engineering consultation services for several regional/national chain stores, pharmacies, hotel projects across New York State, developing spread footing, mat foundation, and deep foundation design solutions.
Public/private schools, colleges and universities within the education sector need to upkeep their facilities and expand their facilities to service the growing needs of the community.
To meet these needs, Public/Private school clients are developing projects ranging from two classroom building additions and small storage building installations on the small size to multi-school location building additions and new athletic turf field and synthetic track installations on the large size.

The manufacturing/industrial sector present unique geotechnical engineering challenges. Most facilities require large open spaces, resulting in heavy column loads. Vibration and settlement sensitive equipment requirements often needs to be address as part of the design scope.
