I wish everyone's answer was "this morning!" But if your periods are painful, you want to be pregnant and you're not, your body didn't birth your baby as you thought it should, or you pee a little when you sneeze, gratitude is probably not your first feeling. In fact, when you experience your womb or your pelvic bowl as a source of discomfort or dysfunction, it's more likely that you feel frustrated, discouraged or even betrayed by your body.
These issues and many others can be alleviated with the simple hands-on massage techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy. How would you like to love your belly back to health? You can feel better and begin to come back into right relationship with your creative center, whatever your age or stage of life.

Services
I've been providing compassionate, body-centered care to families in Boulder County since 1993. As a homebirth midwife, the most fulfilling aspect of my job was my relationships - the intimate connections I made with my clients as guide and witness to their birthing journeys. Though I have retired from catching babies, I continue the deep connections and guidance for women of all ages and stages in life.
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy originate in ancient Maya practices of abdominal massage. Gentle external massage helps guide organs back into proper position and enhances the flow of blood, lymph, nerve impulses and chi in the abdomen. Increased flow restores balance and allows the body to heal.
Massage is not a luxury; it is essential health maintenance, just like exercise. While exercise (including most styles of yoga) is the yang, integrative therapeutic massage is the yin of self-care. Receiving nurturing touch resets and restores the body like nothing else.
Dropping out of focused mind, enjoying connection in the physical body without effort, releasing tension and increasing flow all serve to enhance well-being and reduce dis-ease on all levels. To that end, I have cultivated a deep, slow and soothing touch, informed by training in Shiatsu, myofascial and craniosacral therapies.

It takes about 30 minutes. Initial visits are scheduled for 2 hours. We begin with an extensive intake, followed by physical assessment, treatment and education. Finally, we develop plans for self-care between sessions and an expectation of how many professional sessions you will need. You don't need to wear any particular type of clothing, I will ask you to remove all but your underwear and drape your legs and chest while I work on your abdomen.
These techniques are a brilliant combination of traditional wisdom and modern science. They originate in ancient Maya practices of abdominal massage. Dr. Rosita Arvigo studied for 40 years with traditional healers in Central America and combined what she learned with extensive anatomical study and her Naprapathic practices.

Amy has been such a blessing in my life. I’ve been seeing her for Arvigo work and prenatal work and I feel so lucky to have her. She is kind, supportive and so incredibly intuitive. I always feel better after seeing her, both because of the massage and because of the time she spends connecting with me and understanding where I am at in my body. The Arvigo work was instrumental in helping me work through some blockages around getting pregnant and the prenatal work has been amazing for my body and my mental health. Amy is a wonderful human being and practitioner! Go see her!

I have found much relief from the maya abdominal massages I have received from Amy. There have been a few interesting changes since getting my first maya abdominal massage and practicing the self-care massages on my own. Firstly, I am much more aware of my digestive processes and can tell when certain foods don’t agree with me. I surprisingly have found myself getting better sleep, I tend to spend a lot of time in my head thinking about all the things I need to do, the abdominal massages seem to help keep me grounded and in my body. One of my concerns when I first booked the massage was that

Amy is a skilled massage therapist, and weaves her experience as a midwife, a massage therapist and a teacher of Mayan abdominal massage into providing a multi-layered approach to touch. In the beginning of the session she really takes her time to understand what is happening with your body. She is curious, strong and careful in her touch. In my time working with Amy, she has relieved symptoms of pelvic and abdominal discomfort. She has a gift of both exact knowledge of the body ,and an intuitive approach that weaves a beautiful fusion of care.

Amy's prenatal massages are wonderful! She has all the necessary pillows and equipment to make sure pregnant gals are comfy, which for me means face down ;) She has great intuition when to work the tissue deep and when to be gentle and soothing. Her experience with midwifery and Mayan abdominal massage qualifies her to give great advice and attention to the baby as well. It's such a great experience! I recommend it to all!

I worked with Amy from 20 weeks into my pregnancy until postnatal. She is an expert on Arvigo therapy and has trained many of the local practitioners. She was nurturing and incredibly knowledgeable on all things surrounding childbirth. (She was a midwife for many years!) She also does prenatal classes. I went to one on Anatomy and it was really informative.

Amy has been helping me with a prolapse issue for the past 4 months. She's an amazing resource--warm, capable, and professional. Her work isn't like any other massage you may have had. Grounded in years serving as a midwife, Amy "sees with her hands" and is able to directly support women's bodies like no one else.

I have been seeing Amy throughout my pregnancy and I cannot say enough about her work. She’s an amazing body worker and her techniques truly bring peace and ease to my pregnancy. As a retired midwife and extremely experienced message therapist I feel safe and supported in her sessions. She is incredibly positive and knowledgeable and she holds a very special space for women and the importance of self-care. I would highly recommend Amy over and over again.

I have been seeing Amy for prenatal massage for a few months, and I have really felt a difference in my comfort level even days after I see her. Her abdominal massage is so comforting, and I was very glad to learn how to do it myself in her Belly Basics class.
Amy not only provides expert care, but she is also offers great insights for self-care at home. I highly recommend her services!

The healing practices and presence that Amy offers have had a profound impact on my reproductive and overall health over the past 2.5 years I have been fortunate enough to work with her. Amy embodies a depth of understanding and wisdom that is a unique blend of traditional massage therapy and abdominal and pelvic floor work that has been so supportive for myself and I believe would benefit anyone she works with. Amy is down to earth, genuine and extremely caring, the Boulder community is lucky to have her.

Amy is an incredible, empathetic, calming presence. I suffer from severe endometriosis and have struggled with traditional clinical physical therapy. Amy has helped me feel more control over how I communicate and work along side my own body. Her hands-on work is phenomenal, but even more so, she strives to teach her techniques to YOU so that you can include them in your self-care routines. Her vast knowledge and beautiful energetic connectivity are so comforting. Overall, she has helped me reduce my pain level and learn how to intuitively listen to my body and its' abundant wisdom.
