I was born in Saint Louis, MO, but San Diego is my home. I am a proud Trojan and graduated in 2008 from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, a program renowned for clinical excellence in restorative dentistry. I practiced in Saint Louis for four years before moving back out west to San Diego for good in 2013.
I am currently licensed to practice in the states of California and Missouri. Simply put, I am passionate about dentistry. I love working with my hands and helping people through both education and high quality dentistry that mimics nature. I am constantly reading and researching dental literature, continuously updating my dental knowledge.

If you need a Dentist, you must contact Dr. Michael O'Brian at La Mesa Family Dentistry. I was crying up a storm when I arrived. Meeting a new dentist and having them work on me was scary as I truly do NOT trust easily. My previous dentist was my dentist for over 20 years. So, you can see, why I approach this dentist like a scared puppy. Even another patient wanted and tried to console me, spoke very highly of him and even prayed over me. The front office staff let my ex-husband use my Care Credit Card via phone (account in my name only & of course now I have closed all possible ways for him to be able to access my account again) for a $2500 payment towards his $4800 Invisalign Braces case without my authorization. My card/account does not only have my first name on there, but my maiden last name as well. Therefore, even more reason for them to have not let my ex husband use my card as the last name did not even match his. Obvi all they were concerned about was making sure they collected money. I have to send an update to my last review but I had the best dental Experience in my life! I have always been very sensitive to the anesthetic and always concerned I'll have a bad reaction. #1 barely felt the injections #2 felt nothing during my temporary crown and #3 left the office with zero numbness.
I finally received my permanent crown after 5 years of needing a replacement due to insurance reason and I am so happy with the results.

This review is long overdue. I have been coming to see Dr. O'Brien and his amazing staff since he opened.
I am the type of person who was terrified of the dentist. So much so that I used to go to sedation dentistry. Since I found him I no longer need that. Who is excited to go to the dentist anyways? I had my first real dental surgery yesterday with Dr. O'Brien, I must say this is the first time I left a dental office without any pain. The root canal went smoothly I couldn't feel what was being done!! I'll definitely recommend him to my family n friends, then this was a very surprising thing.. He called me the following day to check up me n if I had any problems from the visit... now that's first rate professionalisms at the best...

Dr. is super gentle and always takes time to explain everything and resolve any concerns. I have had a lot of fillings in my life and he is the only dentist that has not made my mouth feel sore the next day, it's kinda amazing. I also see him for invisalign and they do a monthly payment plan for me that's easy. The office is clean and comfortable and I definitely recommend him!

I love la mesa dental artistry. All of my dental has been there and I love the team. They're attentive, nice and take great care in what they do, Sarah is awesome, and treats me with awesome care and conversation, it's a chill environment with quality work and atmosphere. First off, I had a really traumatic dental surgery as a teen. I have been avoiding the dentist like the plague. But I was experiencing pain for awhile now and knew I needed to go. I was absolutely dreading it. I found Dr. O'Brien on Yelp and was happy to see he had nothing but 5 star reviews. So I took a chance and I am so glad I did.
Dr. O'Brien and his staff were so patient and gentle with me. I ended up having to do a root canal as one of my teeth was cracked. I also needed a deep cleaning. Well my first appointment

I've been going to this dentist since I was little! I hadn't gone for a couple of years due to new dental insurance and it not qualifying for this dentist but now that I have better dental insurance I couldn't help but come back to this dentist. Everyone makes you feel comfortable and welcome and they don't hurt your teeth like other dentist do. Def recommend !

Finding an honest, thorough, and gentle dentist is so important. I am honestly not a fan of dental work, but I know it needs to get done. After not being satisfied with some other dental work in my past, I found La Mesa Family Dentist on yelp and decided to give them a try. I couldn't be happier with my decision! The dental hygienist did a wonderful job and the Dr. O'Brien talked me through each step of his work, and also took pictures along the way so that I could see what had been done. Save yourself trouble and make an appointment here.

WOW is all I can say....DR. O'Brian and his staff are phenomenal! I'd give more stars if I could.... for starters, they accepted me last minute as a new patient on a Friday at 4 o'clock when most others were closed. His staff was very friendly, helpful and informative and made sure my mother (who got stuck taking me there while I was visiting her) was aware that there were snacks and drinks available in the mini-fridge while she waited which wasn't long. I had a tooth extraction which, as the doctor explained, was like removing three screws without the screw heads present. He was done in 10 minutes

I have been made wary of dentists because of horrible past experience but thanks to La Mesa Family Dentistry, I am starting to dread the dentist a little less each time I come in.

I've been a regular for several years now and have no regrets. I absolutely HATED the fact that I had a dentist appointment before I moved to San Diego. That's until I found the previous dentist, Faith Bolam, online and have been in good hands ever since. I never planned on how difficult it might be to get dental work for both Mom and Dad with two kiddos in tow. The staff at LMFD helped us out so much and made the process so easy. Our family got two cleanings and some fillings, x-rays all in one visit.
I had four fillings done and the process was smooth, easy, and painless.
I'm happy we found a great team to treat our family.

Dr. O'Brien and his staff are the best! I was having trouble with cold sensitivity on one tooth and could not chew anything harder than a piece of bread on the tooth directly below without experiencing shooting pain. This had been going on for the past two years and was from work done at a different dentist. I went in for a cleaning and routine exam and explained the issues I was having.
