Choosing to end your marriage by getting divorced is a difficult but often necessary course of action for many couples. Whether your divorce will be contested or uncontested, you need to seek reliable counsel. Our firm's divorce attorneys can help. Our ultimate goal is to guide you through your divorce and help you achieve the best outcome possible as efficiently as possible.
How does the Court determine alimony? Alimony may be ordered to be paid by one party for the support of the other when the parties are living separately. Alimony is never guaranteed as the Court has broad discretion to determine whether alimony is appropriate. Generally, alimony is intended to be rehabilitative and to help a party that is unemployed, or underemployed, return to becoming self-supportive.
One of the most difficult and emotionally charged issues between couples filing for divorce is often the determination of custody. A judge has the ability to order joint legal custody without ordering joint physical custody.

Unless otherwise provided by court order, the person awarded sole custody of a child shall have the rights and responsibilities for major decisions concerning the child, including the child's education, health care, extracurricular activities, and religious training, and the noncustodial parent shall have the right to visitation or parenting time.
Child support laws have evolved over the years and have become more dependent on specific family situations. In Georgia, we use an income shares model that utilizes the income of both parents in arriving at the amount of child support. Child support worksheets are completed in each case and will provide a calculation of child support.

As a wife in the midst of my husband’s infidelity, I was at the lowest point in my marriage. Hiring Harris Law Firm was the best decision I could have made. Alyssa not only obtained a far greater financial settlement for me, but also thru her professionalism and quick response time to my emails and texts, became my rock and made my process bearable. Highly recommend.

I worked with Alyssa and Allen, great communication, very easy to reach with questions and concerns. The price quoted was very accurate (considering legal work can get crazy depending on the various parties involved). Billing was timely, concise, and easy to read. Would refer them in a heartbeat for anybody dealing with family law issues

I have known Allen Harris for more that thirty (30) years. As an attorney myself that practices in the area of family law, I can honestly say Allen is one of the best trial lawyers I have ever worked with. He is dedicated to his clients, well prepared and an extremely skilled trial attorney. Without reservation, if I was every in need of a family law attorney, Allen would be my first choice.

In Nov 2019 my 40 year marriage as i knew it, was shattered. When I realized my husband's confession was not even close to the truth after 6 mos. of therapy, I fortunately stumbled upon Allen Harris.
I found Allen on the internet in the height of covid. I decided to drive to his office to check it out (EVERYTHING WAS CLOSED THEN) the bldg was open! Then I found his office , and went in, and he was there! I think a scared him a bit, I apologized and he was so kind and encouraged me to explain while social distancing. I felt like it was a "God thing"
Through every step of this nightmare, Allen

I cannot say enough good things about Alyssa. She is my top choice for referring those looking for a family attorney. I trust she will take care of them and provide excellent representation, which is my highest concern as a fellow attorney.

We have worked with Mr. Harris for two and a half years on a complicated case. In our initial meeting, he was very frank about the relevant laws’ intentions and general outcome in the rare rulings rendered by the state court in similar cases. He made us aware of the commitment we had to make of both the length of time and resources needed to pursue the case. Throughout the years he offered strategic advice regarding what decisions we needed to make to proceed, he made us aware of the pros and cons of our decisions, and the potential outcomes of a direction we decided to take.
