Services
I established Treese Counseling Service in 2002 to provide counseling for adults seen individually and in couples. What I do is consistent with current counseling theories and practice patterns. For example, I am currently looking at an acceptance model and concepts from positive psychology to see if ideas from these approaches can combine effectively with a basic problem correction model.
The clinical model that I have developed is interactive and solution focused. It is based on the belief that everyone is capable of positive self-directed change. Indeed, learning how to achieve this is largely what counseling is about. Change can involve how we deal with current and past life circumstances as well as improvement in the nature and quality of our personal and emotional experience.
This site includes articles on a variety of topics pertinent to counseling and personal growth. Some focus on what you can do to increase the effectiveness of counseling. Others present more general concepts pertinent to counseling and effective psychological functioning. There is also a section of exercises which you might find helpful.
The list could be long. Part of personal growth and change often involves acquiring new concepts and information. The books below are by authors who have contributed significantly to the field of self psychology. In coming months we will add new authors, comment on all of them and offer suggestions on how to use books and other materials in your personal program.
