The following is a list of required kata and techniques for attaining each belt rank. Please bear in mind that knowledge of the listed techniques does not necessarily mean you are ready for promotion. Advancement in rank is based on knowledge and execution of techniques and kata, class attendance, time since last promotion, progression of skill, and demonstration of budo spirit.
Kata videos give students the chance to see Sensei Bill demonstrate the proper techniques, and perform the kata at full speed, then practice the kata multiple times. Demonstrations are also provided of the bunkai, or application, of the techniques, so students can understand what they are doing. Follow along to the end of each video, following the instructions, and your skills and understanding will grow quickly!
In the dojo, there are certain forms of etiquette, or rules of conduct and interaction, that you must follow. The purpose of these rules is to show respect to your instructors and fellow students, to provide a safe and enjoyable training environment, and to show your dedication to the path that you have chosen to follow, the way of karate.

I joined this dojo when I moved to Chesapeake in 2016. I found a nice dojo with competent and engaged instructors in a familar and supporting atmosphere. It offers training in empty hands Shito-Ryu Karate and Japanese weapons Kobudo on 5 days/week for a fair price without an annual contract. Finding Zanshinkan brought me back to a regular training.
