Orton Real Estate Services has been serving the area since 1946: John W. Orton founded an independent insurance agency in Sidney, Iowa following World War II, and offered a wide range of insurance products representing several of America's grand old insurance companies. Shortly thereafter, he branched into real estate sales, and farm property management services.
He continued to operate his office in Sidney until his death in 1985. Following a tour in the United States Army, completing an advanced degree at the University of Colorado, and a stint at teaching in the Iowa public schools, John's son, Stan Orton, joined the family business in 1974, and opened the Orton Real Estate Services Shenandoah office in 1975.
