Midwest Academy is located in Naperville, Illinois, and is proud to attract the very best students and teachers in Chicago and the western suburbs. David B. Hakim, Academy Director, started training in the 1980's. In 1986 he began training in the system that would ultimately become the core of the Midwest Academy.
Traditional Japanese culture holds that the pine tree (Sho), bamboo tree (Chiku), and plum blossom (Bai) are representative of strength, suppleness, and endurance respectively. These qualities are not just physical, but also mental, emotional, and spiritual. The connotation is that they are qualities that are interdependent on one another and must be developed simultaneously.
The Midwest Academy provides firearms training through our Firearms-Combatives Program (FCP). The Academy's FCP classes and courses are a unique kinesiology-based firearms training program that includes, among other components, visual acuity and proprioception sciences, perception and decision-making sciences, and critical-incident mindset development sciences as taught through the "art of gunfighting."

This is an excellent school for someone who is looking to learn martial arts for the purpose of self defense and develop a stronger mind-body relationship. The main instructor is skilled in both the physical and teaching aspects of the martial arts which brings a level depth to the training that can be difficult to find in other places. The training covers striking, grappling, and weapons applications with emphasis on learning the mechanics body movement, positioning, and timing in addition to the basic movements of a given technique.
I cannot recommend this school highly enough to people who
