It is our belief that young children develop their abilities best in a warm and loving atmosphere. We believe that each child differs from all other children in many respects, and each age has its own special needs and characteristics. Stages of development follow one another in an orderly progression, but this progression moves forward at different rates for different children.
First Presbyterian Preschool allows for the individuality of each child in order to build positive attitudes toward self, others, and learning. Children's understanding of the world around them, and thus their intellectual development, is stimulated through play. Through play children expand their language skills, formulate theories, solve problems, and develop curiousity.

Play-based learning is a type of early childhood education based on child-led and open-ended play. If you're picturing preschoolers finger painting or 'playing house', you're spot on. The research in early childhood education shows that play is essential for healthy child development. Play allows children to learn to be imaginative, creative and collaborative.
For over 70-years, First Presbyterian Preschool has been committed to nurturing a love of learning through play. Our powerful play-centered program allows children to use their creativity to build critical skills such as resiliency and problem solving that are essential to success in school and life.
Our classrooms are filled with singing, laughter, and learning! They are busy learning - but more than just their ABCs and 123s! They are learning about each other, their families, and ways to be a good friend. The ability to accept others and feel compassion for one another is an important part of our children's development and education.
Our skilled teachers set up an engaging classroom full of age-appropriate activities for the children and caregivers. During 'playtime' adults can have concurrent conversations. These groups are designed to engage parents and caregivers in meaningful topics about early childhood goals, strategies, and techniques.
