Led by Sensei Steven Wong and Sensei Cleo Martin, the aim of Japan Ways is to provide a family atmoshphere where students can continue to practice and grow as karateka. We work hard, train hard and expect the best from ourselves and our students. Japan Ways' instructors all have extensive experience and are all internationally certified with Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation.

Our Chief Instructor is Sensei Steven Wong, Rokudan (6th black belt) and our Senior Instructor is Sensei Cleo Martin, Godan (5th black belt). Both have been training since 1973 and 1972 respectively. All of the remaining instructors and assistant instructors have over thirty years of experience each, ensuring the highest quality instruction.
Services
For your first few classes, just yourself and some loose fitting clothes (sweats and a tee-shirt work well). After the first month we ask that you purchase a uniform (gi) either from Japan Ways or one of the numerous retailers. First of all, it is important to understand that bowing in the dojo does not have any religious meaning.
All students must bring mouth guards and kumite hand guards to each class. All males must wear athletic cups. If you do not have the safety gear, you will be asked to sit during kumite drill and training. Those interested in early morning training on Saturdays at 8:00 am, contact Sensei Martin for requirements.
Please view on http://www.japanways.com. We realize that the transition from our temporary schedule to our regular schedule may cause some confusion and students will be allowed flexibility on participation. All students who attend class must have face covering/masks. All students must adhere to sanitizing procedures and are subject to temperature checks.
Class schedules will be updated as the month progresses with hopefully more classes being offered in July. For students who trained in March, dues will be optional. The dojo will follow distancing guidelines and there will be no partner training for the month of June.

The initial classes will be general training (Instructor's Choice) with the earlier class geared towards beginner to intermediate; the second class will be geared towards intermediate to advanced. However, both classes are open to all belt levels. The next rank test is again postponed until the end of June or in July depending on the demonstration of physical and testing ability of the returning student.
However, there is discussion, and hope, that we may be allowed to open before that time, as specifics for all businesses are being considered on a state and local level. Stay tuned for updates. Please follow the training videos produced by the SKIF Japan headquarters dojo located at "SKIF Official Channel".

Soo good to be home.
For the newcomer, it is an amazing place with good people. It becomes family. It's a great place for families to work-out together or by yourself. I hope to see you there.

This is a true Shotokan school. Not sure why more students haven't reviewed it, but the instructors are all high quality and certified by Shotokan Karate International Federation. This is a family friendly environment, but they do teach effective self defense fighting techniques, and full contact sparring is a norm here. You will find no better rates for training, as they have individual and family memberships that come with unlimited classes. Essentially you can train 6 days a week here, with your children if you have them, for I believe 124 dollars a month; individual memberships are less than
