Discover the beautiful Japanese martial art known as Aikido. While most martial styles focus on fighting and damaging an opponent, Aikido removes the fighting element, creating a defense system based on movement, harmony and conflict resolution while avoiding injury to your attacker. Aikido is more that a set of skills for self-defense; the art can give you a new way of living, discover peace in the most stressful times, learn to resolve conflict at home, work, and within.

Come join one of our Aikido classes. Pick one of our classes from Monday thru Saturday. If you want to educate your child in Aikido and none-violent self defense you can bring your kid and even join the class yourself with our Class 'Mommy, Daddy, and Me' suited for younger kids and supportive parents.
Our lives are flooded with images of violence and conflict. Sometimes we think the only way out is to become faster, tougher, and meaner than our perceived opponents, but that's not the answer we want for our children or ourselves. Violence perpetuates violence. Anger is a cop out. It acknowledges our feelings of fear and helplessness, but it solves no problem.
All our teachers are certified black belts, with years of experience in Aikido. We have an active teacher training program that assures all classes follow the same curriculum, with consistent etiquette rules and expectations. Kate Song is a 3rd degree black belt and has been practicing since 2004, and teaching the kids since 2010.

This dojo has been an amazing place to train and grow as a person. Aikido is all about becoming the best person you can be, and the journey is always on-going. Great instructors and curriculum in traditional Aikido training. I received my black belt recently and my journey is just getting started. Excellent Adult and children's programs. Highly recommended for anyone who values mindful self-defense training.

I can recommend this place to the moon and back. The sensei was one of the coolest guys I've met in a long time, and had more energy than me, someone less than half his age! A very patient and understanding environment, you're never forced to go anywhere before you're ready. Advancement is purely based on understanding and skill, nobody's going to have paid for their "black belt" duds. The only downside is the adult mat room doesn't have the greatest AC ever, so you're gonna bake in the dog days of summer.

I loved this place when Sensei Smartt was in charge, but the few times I have been back since he left, it does not seem the same anymore. Seems like it's dying off, and that makes me sad.
My previous review was from 2013 and I'd given it 5 stars. Here is the text of that previous review:

I have to admit that the food here is terrible, and the wait staff here leaves a lot to be desired.
With that said, I'll mention that New School Aikido is actually an Aikido dojo, and not really a restaurant. Okay, it's not a restaurant at all, but I have been served food here, usually after black belt presentations.
New School Aikido IS an excellent dojo however, and anyone who is even remotely thinking about self defense should enroll here. The staff here are great, caring, well rounded people who have been studying Aikido since time immemorial.
The mat is awesome, the dojo well
