Palo Alto Judo Club
Judo was developed by Professor Jigoro Kano from a martial art called Jujitsu. The aim of judo is to utilize physical and mental strength most effectively. Its training is to understand the true meaning of life through the mental and physical training of attack and defense. You must develop yourself as a person and become a useful citizen to society.

The phrase sei ryoku zen yo expresses the essence of judo's approach. By learning and mastering the judo's essence from experience, we can always maintain composure, make decisions clearly, and foster self-esteem throughout our living in this complex society. Adapted from Matsutaro Shibazaki, Judo 1974, pp.

We have visited this Dojo two times a year for 5 years. Cal Kitura is the head instructor and is amazing. Usually there are 6 to 8 instructors and 30 plus students.

Last time we visited, Han Sensei (Olympic silver) from Korea had a special class. The kids love it here. They have a rich history going back over 60 years.

Palo Alto Judo also hosts one of the most prestigious Judo competition each year. It attracts the judo players that intend on advancing their Olympic careers as well as beginners.

Judo here is great for beginners as well as intermediates and advanced. The class is separated

This Judo group is at the Palo Alto Buddhist Temple, on Louis. Great group of people. The instructors are very helpful. The vast majority of students are kids. But there are adults as well. There are usually at least a few instructors at each session; often 5 or more. So students are broken into smaller groups for training at their appropriate age & skill levels. There is a focus on tournament competition. Judo is, after all, an Olympic sport. Classes are currently Tue/Thu 7:00-8:30pm, but they extend this to 9:00pm in the summer.
