James F. "Jim" Menzer grew up in Custer County, Oklahoma on a farm and ranch near Custer City. He graduated from Custer City High School as the Valedictorian of his class. He was awarded the first "State Farmer" FFA award for Custer City High School. Field crops and soils were a special interest in which he excelled.
