Bates Gould Funeral Home
The Bates-Gould Funeral Home began its rich history of serving families in Box Butte County in 1951 when George E. Bates and his wife Berniece moved to Hemingford where they purchased the Wildy Funeral Home. Changing the name to Bates Funeral Home after Harry Wildy's retirement, George and Berniece provided funeral services exclusively to the Hemingford area.

In 1961, they expanded to Alliance with the purchase of the Landa funeral home, at 618 Box Butte Ave., changing the name of the business to Bates-Landa Funeral Home. Ralph and Bernice Landa had not only operated the funeral home for many years but provided emergency ambulance service to the Alliance area.
