Services
Since 1984, Heart & Soul Counseling has provided the Long Island community with a safe place to heal from psychological and social trauma. Currently we have twelve psychotherapists and eight psychiatric nurse practitioners on staff. When you visit, you will feel the nature of our warm professionalism, and our kind, courteous and down to earth atmosphere.
For the past eleven years the Heart & Soul has adopted a family for the holidays, donated toys for a toy drive, reached out to each other in friendship and helped each other recover from substance abuse and destructive behaviors. A community can become a surrogate family even if for a brief time in life.
Heart & Soul Counseling offers individual, family, couples and group counseling. We also offer educational classes and seminars. Some of the classes offered are consciousness raising for women, psychodrama, meditation and yoga groups, classes on self esteem, gay, lesbian and transgender pride workshops and panels, domestic violence and parenting.
Individual counseling is the process in which you can hear yourself talk and not have to be in the shower to do so. Sigmund Freud discovered the "talking cure" while developing the art of psychotherapy. His clients seem to feel better after they were given time to just vent and cathart their ideas, feelings and thoughts.
Transference is the act in which you may transfer feelings, resentment and past conflict onto a person in your life that was not a part of the original interaction. That person is quite often your significant other. There are triggers that may remind you of lets say your father or your mother. For example your husband might like to watch TV a lot.

This place is an absolute nightmare with the most unprofessional and unorganized people I have ever dealt with. The only person with any sort of sense is the receptionist Jesse.

If you want a good psychiatrist or therapist, look anywhere but here. The amount of stress and inconvenience they have caused has been ridiculous and they shouldn't even be licensed after what I have seen and experienced. I never write reviews but this has to be advertised- SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!

Don't go here! I ended up with Mary. I told her about being impacted by the criminal justice system, and she became unfriendly. Told me to seek help elsewhere, and that she had to ask her supervisor if I could come back.
If you don't want to be judged and pushed away, don't not go there!

There are no words for me to express how invaluable Heart and Soul has been for me. I've been coming here for therapy and medication management on and off since 2001, and through it all Tina has been there for me. Regardless of how much time has gone by in between my treatment, she has always remembered me and treated me with respect and a genuine care for my well being. I have been consistently coming for therapy and medication management for the past 4 years, and the adjustments they have made to accommodate their clients through the pandemic have made it so easy to continue my treatment

My last shot at getting my bipolar medication situated and I was told by Nicole they would not treat me at the end of an hour long appointment and a couple of days before I run out of medication because of any sort of substance use, which last I checked the substance in question was just legalized in NY. I guess the Hippocratic Oath doesn't mean anything when a patient is on the verge of being forced into withdrawal. Don't bother with this place. They should lose their license

I saw Ruthellen in the West Babylon location. She was unprofessional and disreputable.

She walked into the building, arriving for work, 5 minutes past my appointment time, said "oh do I have a patient?" and proceeded to chat about Thanksgiving with another employee and settle in for another 15 minutes before shouting down the hall for me to come in-- keep in mind, this was the first time I ever met her, and this is how she greeted a new patient. She recommended that I take walks (even though I just told her that I did), not watch the news (though she did tell me I should be politically

They really should be named "no heart or soul" with what they put me through. To anyone considering this place, If you have moderately bad to severe mental health problems please, DO NOT GO HERE. Your nurse practitioner will refuse to treat you after a few months if they feel your case is too difficult, and then leave you with absolutely no referral to a different doctor forcing you to go to a partial hospitalization during a global pandemic. (Nicole) They do not care about your mental health at all, they have no feelings towards you as a person, you could literally be crying in the waiting

The most wonderful office I've ever been to. My therapist Megan is the first therapist I actually felt comfortable with after two years and 6 other counselors. Megan is so reassuring, understanding, kind and knowledgeable. I always look forward to my appointments instead of dreading them or feeling like it's an obligation. She's relatable, funny and knows how to keep a session going strong so I get the most out of every minute. Dr. Thao is my psychiatrist and is so informative on medications and thorough with every visit. I trust her and know that she can help me find the best medication

This place was good awhile back...now they have a psychiatric NP with no personality who calls the patients byfirst and last name even when waiting room has other patients. The best therapists are gone (wonder why)...will not be returning.

Did not have a good experience here. Mary constantly checked the clock throughout the session. Her contant yawning was not really a good feeling either. She seemed very disinterested.

I am shocked by the two negative reviews that are on display for Heart and Soul Counseling. If you look through the filtered reviews you will see all of the positive reviews that for some reason YELP has hidden. It seems unfair that only the worst reviews are shown. Seems like someone needs to file a lawsuit against YELP for filtering only the good reviews.

I thought YELP was a great unbiased site that put what the public thinks, truthfully, on display to educate us. It does not appear as though that is the case.

Regardless, do your self a favor and seek counseling if you are struggling. Tina

Horrible! Absolutely the most unprofessional and dirty office I have ever been to! My husband and I went for couples counseling twice where the doctor was extremely unprofessional and told us that she has no idea and no tools to help. Well than how could she be marriage counselor? So she then proceeded to tell us that she could no longer see us but would not reimburse us for.the session she cut short! Worse decision ever to go there!

Why 4 stars and not five. There is no such thing as perfection. How ever my experience with Heart and soul is as close to perfect as it gets and I have been going there on and off for close to 20 years.
As soon as you walk in the door you are in a safe place that is filled with warmth and serenity. As you get going with your therapy you will realize you are now in a therapeutic community with the most abundant and progressive resources. I can tell you that for me Heart and Soul has been one of the most consistent resources for my well being I could ever ask for. Kudos to Tina and the Staff and

My mentally and physically disabled sister collapsed and died suddenly, in my elderly mother's arms, the day of her 50th birthday party. I contacted Heart & Soul to try to obtain grief counseling for my mother three weeks after my sister died. I wrote a long, detailed email informing them of the situation, and asking that they provide a warm, caring therapist who could ease my mother into the idea of going to therapy, something she was very resistant to. I was assured the therapist that was recommended was a very warm and kind person and would be a good match for my mother. We walked
