When you are starting out and building your business, you probably had a tight budget and an even tighter schedule. You didn't have the money or the time to put things in place. As your business has stabilized, you realize that you need to patch some holes in your infrastructure. You want to button things up before major problems happen.
The Legal Department evolved out of the desire to occupy an uncommon space in the legal industry. As attorneys, we want to share knowledge and create long-term relationships with our clients as trusted advisors. In this role, The Legal Department changed the narrative of attorney-client relationships.
How did you start The Legal Department? I started this law firm in 2015 (at that time it was called Elevate Business Law) and it was the biggest risk I have ever taken. Although I had been a business attorney for a long time by then, I quickly discovered that I had a lot to learn about being a business owner.
This area of infrastructure is to make sure that your business is set up correctly so that you have a solid foundation to build upon. The type of container you have for your business is very important. Choosing the type of container should be a well-reasoned analysis of the best fit for your particular situation.
We are business attorneys who are experienced in writing owner agreements for LLC's and corporations. This area of infrastructure deals with relationships between multiple owners of the business. Anytime a business has more than one owner, there needs to be an agreement that sets out the structure of their relationship.
