Dr. Chip Patterson grew up in a dental family helping out at his father's dental office in Toccoa, and knew early on that he was passionate about dentistry. He attended Young Harris and the University of Georgia before completing his dental degree at the Medical College of Georgia. He went on to complete a dental residency that put extra emphasis on surgical techniques and implant placement at the VA Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

Dental cleanings are extremely important in preventing gum disease. When plaque and tarter are not properly removed, they cause inflammation and bleeding. This is the first stage of gum disease, also known as gingivitis. Gingivitis can be reversed, but if nothing is done about the plaque and tarter, they will continue to cause trouble.
There are multiple reasons that a dentist would recommend a crown for your tooth. When a very large filling falls out or breaks, there may not be enough of your natural tooth left to hold a new filling.
When a filling is bigger than the tooth, two things could happen: the filling may quickly fall out because there is not enough tooth to bond to, or the small remaining bit of natural tooth will break from the strain of holding the large filling in.Cracked tooth syndrome is also a situation that requires fairly immediate action, generally in the form of dental crowns.

Over time, pigmented food and drink like tomato sauce, red wine, coffee and tea can stain and darken teeth. Thinning enamel also darkens the appearance of teeth because the inner, yellow layer shows through more. Some people also have naturally more yellow teeth. Professional whitening can help brighten teeth in most of these situations.

I have been going here for years! Lin is the best hygienist I've had and I come in for cleaning every six months. I chipped my tooth recently and when I called Becky, she set me up to come in right away. Chip took me right in and fixed it. I was in and out in twenty minutes! I asked about whitening my teeth and Dr. Koehler recommended bleaching. Lin told me of a special they were having in December so I went in to have impressions and can't wait to see the results! Everyone is great!

Excellent staff! Mrs. Becky is amazing and always does a great job of trying to find me an appointment time that works for me. Mrs. Jill is so nice and makes me feel right at home. Dr. Chip is a great dentist and always does his best to make me feel comfortable since I have such bad anxiety about getting dental work done. The lobby is also nice and there are plenty of chairs to wait in. Overall great place and best dentist office ever!

All of my experiences at this office have been great. I have seen both dentists and have good results from their advice and care. I am always pleased by them and their staff. I have never felt comfortable going to the dentist but it is like family there and there is no stress associated with my visits. Hope we always have them to take care of our dentistry needs.

I would like to thank Dr. Chip Patterson from the bottom of my heart. And share my experience with oral cancer. I had never seen Dr. Patterson until my first appointment on May 9th, 2020. I had been having problems with a sore on my tongue. Dr. Chip Patterson made time for me even though we were in the middle of the Covid 19 epidemic. After his examination, he calmly and professionally explained to me of his concerns. He scheduled an appt. for me with an oral surgeon within two days. After the biopsy which confirmed what Dr. Patterson suspected, yes, it was in fact cancer, stage 4 cancer. If it

If you can have a wonderful experience at a dentist’s office, then Patterson Family Smiles in Clayton is where you’ll have it!! I am a 49 year old crybaby chicken and not ashamed to say that, yet the whole staff treated me with respect and willingly deferred to my skittishness. They took fantastic care of me and made the daunting experience as pleasant as could be.
Dr. Patterson’s calm and friendly manner will immediately put you at ease. And Abby, his assistant, cheerfully takes your mind off your worries with pleasant conversation. I was gratefully distracted when she commented on my shoes

Dr Patterson and his staff are kind, efficient and professional! We had and accident while whitewater rafting. My 16 year old son was accidentally struck in mouth by an oar. He had a broken front tooth with a nerve exposed! It was quite painful. As soon as we got off the river, I called Patterson Family Smiles 20 minutes before closing and asked if they could please see us even though we are visiting. They had us come right over. Dr Patterson fixed his tooth in the next hour.
The tooth looks great. He can eat without pain and smile without embarrassment.
