My wife and I used to live on a pretend farm in Grant, MN with a llama named Mack and my spiritual advisor, Kitty, an old black lab. I'm personally very passionate about home safety. I like to think the work I do on a daily basis might someday save the life of someone else. As for my "why, " I learned a lot about being a home inspector from my dad.

We had a family-run resort near Pequot Lakes, MN, and we did all the work ourselves: Plumbing, electric, construction, etc. As it happens, my dad didn't know much about those things. He thought that three nails was enough for a shingle and black tape was a good substitute for wire nuts. Well, he was wrong.

All soils have uranium-some more than others. As uranium decays, it makes radon gas, which is the second leading cause of lung cancer, after smoking. For those people who breathe the gas and are also in the habit of smoking, the risk of lung cancer is huge. Radon is odorless, silent and deadly. Easy to detect and mitigate, it nonetheless could be a homeowner's worst nightmare.
Believe it or not, a sewer scan can provide valuable information for old and new houses alike. As a general rule of thumb, though, the older the house and sewer line, the greater the chances there are issues that need correcting. The most common issues are borne of tree roots.

When you think of a tree root, you might imagine a thick, gnarly thing that takes several whacks with a shovel to break through; however, roots in a sewer are thin and long.Besides roots and associated blockage issues, a sewer line might have cracks, an issue with improper slope or rat nests. I swear it's true; I saw one.

Joe is a very thorough and knowledgeable inspector. As a first time homebuyer, I was very pleased with the detail he went into when explaining any concerns or making comments on aspects of the home without over-complicating it. His approach was aimed at ensuring safety, reliability, and preservation of value on the home.
I would like to specifically commend his manner of stressing "why" I should care about the things he pointed out. This allowed me make my decisions on how to prioritize and proceed with addressing the concerns more straightforward.
Lastly, he was on time and professional throughout

Bought a house 3 years ago. Just had a contractor over who was a former inspector who told us we should have never have bought our home due to significant issues with the floor. It was really hard to tell with Joe what was minor vs major. He never shared with us that the flooring was a big deal. Super disappointed as we now have to pay tens of thousands to have our flooring beams re-done in the basement. He put the info in our inspection report to have the beams re-done but never shared how expensive or concerning it is. And unfortunately, we are now having to re-finance our home just to fix it

Joe's inspection was thorough, professional and timely. He was flexible with our schedule and prompt with the report. I appreciated his candor and practicality when providing his assessment of the property. Felt like I was being taken care of which is all one can ask for during the first portion of the home buying purchase.
Thanks Joe!

Couldn't have been blessed with a better inspector for our first home purchase! Joe was incredibly detailed and efficient throughout the inspection (we got the report in only a few hours) and did an incredible job explaining everything to two first time home buyers. No question was too small for a thoughtful answer. We particularly appreciated Joe going above and beyond to give us his own insights and opinions on the "must do" versus "could do" tasks. Those have given us the exact list of prioritized tasks we've been wanting.
Above all Joe was amiable and kind while teaching us all the things

Joe was extremely thorough and took the time to show us everything he noticed, good and bad, while doing his inspection. He was quick to schedule us in and answered all our questions and then some. As first time homeowners, we had more questions than most might and we felt like he took the time to explain or look at whatever we wanted to. He also explained why getting the sewer scope was highly advised and it ended up saving us a lot of future money. Totally would recommend him to anyone. Great person with honest, thorough feedback.
