Services
A jewelry appraisal is the qualified opinion of an expert in the field of gemology pertaining to the value of the article described. It first requires an accurate representation of the item and its components - the gemstones and mountings - their identification and qualitative grading against industry standards.
Michael Nedler is a Graduate Gemologist who has been in the jewelry business in Denver since 1976. He and his father, Sonny Nedler, owned Sonny's Diamonds & Jewelry in Cherry Creek. Sonny's was well known for their exciting jewelry fashion designers, collectable high-end watches, and exquisite bridal jewelry.
A lot of people who are thinking of selling some of their jewelry ask if they should get it appraised. My answer is maybe, depending on how you're planning to sell it. Basically, there are two ways to go about it with advantages and disadvantaged to each way. Let me explain. I would recommend Colorado Gem Labs to anyone needing jewelry appraisal. I recently had my engagement ring appraised and Michael was incredibly knowledgeable, professional and timely. The entire appraisal was conducted in front of my eyes (took about 45 min), and my ring never left my sight. Michael is very high tech and I believe his process is very accurate. I will be going back once I re-set my ring for an updated appraisal.

Not knowing where to start in terms of finding a trustworthy gemologist, I happened upon Colorado Gem Labs during a google search.

I have never worked with an appraiser before, but Michael was extremely helpful. Not only was he able to take me same day, but he was very thorough with the appraisal and I was able to watch it all done in person. He was extremely helpful with pointing out some items that I missed about the ring. He gave an honest appraisal and I feel like I could not have chosen a more personable and knowledgeable company to have my ring appraised with. I would highly recommend his services and will be recommending him to anyone that asks for a trustworthy appraiser.

While I didn't get the chance to use Mike's full services, I spoke to him at length on the phone and he professionally advised me that I likely do not need an appraisal (as much as he would love the business). He was extremely friendly, very knowledgeable, and the fact that he was honest enough to kindly suggest I don't need to pay him money says all that needs to be said. A stand-up person!

Michael was great on the jewelry appraisal today. It was for 5 items and I needed it done for my insurance company. It was completed very fast, he is extremely detailed and overall I am very pleased with his services.
He was also able to accommodate me in a time crunch (within one day) and all appraisals are done in front of you. He sent the final report quickly - 3 hours or so.

Michael was super helpful, I called 30 minutes before closing on a Saturday, to ask about the cost of an appraisal of a ring that I found and didn't know if it was worth being appraised. He kindly advise me, that since I found it in a branded box to take it to the store and let them see if it's registered and/or run a diamond test on them, as opposed to paying him to do an appraisal. 99% of others would have said "sure bring it in" when I clearly told him that I had little to no knowledge of what I was talking about. I used Colorado Gem Labs for an appraisal on my engagement ring. Michael is incredibly professional, kind, and definitely an expert! He not only provided an extremely thorough appraisal, but he was happy to explain his process and educate me a bit more on diamonds. I was in his office for about half an hour and received the appraisal about an hour after that - it was so quick! Everything is done in front of you so you never have to worry about your ring being gone. Michael was able to give me a detailed appraisal the same day. I have an old engagement ring that I was thinking of selling and found Colorado Gem Labs. I chose them because of the great reviews and was not disappointed. I met with Michael Nedler who not only appraised the ring but he spent time explaining the various ways I can sell the ring and the realistic prices that can be expected. He also gave me some good ideas as to how to reset it into something else as a possibility. I met Michael at a jewelry store in the Glendale, CO area for a ring insurance appraisal back in August 2016. He was very professional, courteous and communicated his process each step of the way. That very same day he provided me with a detailed appraisal and valuation.
However, my reason for four, and not five, stars is because I recently learned from a second gemologist (from an online buyer Michael recommended to sell the diamond) that the ring has I1 clarity and not SI2 clarity - a huge difference when it comes to value.

I was looking to have an engagement ring appraised over a weekend and Michael was recommended to me. Time was tight and Michael was very accommodating. Michael was very helpful talking through the 4Cs and explaining why he was rating each as he did. Within a day he provided me with a detailed appraisal for my insurance company. Michael at Colorado Gem Labs is wonderful. He appraised my engagement and wedding rings. He was easy to make an appointment with, he met me at a convenient location, and was able to meet the very next day. When the original jeweler messed up the re-build of my engagement ring, Michael was very gracious and re-appraised the new (correct) ring and made it very easy on me to do so. Michael is a great appraiser and got me the best value for my rings in the appraisal for insurance purposes. :) I highly recommend him!
