Services
Irving O. Hunt and his brother Lyman built some rough camps on Millinocket Lake before they became interested in the Nesowadnehunk Stream region. Whether or not their old camps were at the same site as the present camps on Millinocket Lake we do not know. The Millinocket Lake Camps, known today as Big Moose Inn, are located on a narrow spit of land separating Ambejejus Lake and Millinocket Lake.
We offer a broad selection of lodging for individuals and groups coming to the Millinocket, Baxter State Park or Katahdin region. We can meet the needs of those looking for hotels, motels and campgrounds in the Millinocket area. Big Moose has 8 inn suites with their own private baths, 7 inn rooms with shared baths, 8 lakeside cabins, 8 trailside cabins and two campgrounds for your convenience.
Big Moose selects the best businesses to deliver a complete vacation package to you. We team with local and regional experts to offer guided tours, photography workshops, guided fishing trips and more. Choose one of the complete all inclusive packages from the list on the left and you will be assured a wilderness outdoor vacation that you won't soon forget.
Board the Katahdin Princess on Millinocket Lake for breathtaking views of Katahdin, Maine's highest mountain and said to be the first place in the United States to be touched by the rays of the rising sun! Three hour cruises are available with a 4 person minimum, where you'll visit moose feeding areas - and often see an eagle overhead en route to its nest.
The Big Moose Inn's location affords our guest many opportunities to enjoy the Maine outdoors. It is only a short distance from Baxter State Park and the North Maine Woods, where our guests enjoy the recreational adventures they come to the Katahdin region for. Explore the area by yourself or join a guided tour looking for wildlife or hike into remote wilderness areas with a Registered Maine Guide.

An amazing place that has everything to offer. A special shout out to the lady who runs the restaurant, as well as our server. They were setting up a wedding for the next day but they still sat us down to eat using some of the table space for the wedding. 11 people! Thank you again. Your kindness was well received and returned I hope.

Friendly staff. Nice facilities. Fit me in after I broke down on the Golden Road (Labor Day weekend) and had to have my truck repaired. Great place to get stranded with a camper :). Took a potentially bad week and made it fun. The lakes are great.

Wedding ceremony and reception. Lori was super attentive. You never would have guessed how short- staffed they were. Food was great. Rooms are very nice. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this place for a wedding.

Drove 8 hours from NY to come here. Online booking was easy and the pricing was reasonable, but the “remote campsites” are absolutely not remote. All night we heard traffic on the road and they’re all pushed pretty close together. The campsites were all gravel and crawling with ants that made it difficult to do much of anything. Our site was sloped and most of the other sites appeared to be the same way. Driving in and out of the sites is a hassle (extremely steep hills) and the roads are poorly graded. “Remote” must mean “neglected” to this place. We didn’t bother trying the restaurant

€Hard to leave this life unplugged where daily decisions reduced to whether to hike, fish, bike, canoe, kayak or sit lakeside and read or watch the eagles. Rustic accommodations, yes, yet everything you need to enjoy the bountiful nature around you and the family/friends your with. Lori and team made us feel like family throughout our stay; we miss them already.”

Our second year in a row staying. Great place to stay. Low key, friendly staff. Support local. No need for the chain hotels, this is 100x better. :)

We had a fabulous time at the big moose inn over Memorial Day weekend. Lorie the owner was very kind upon our arrival and treated us like family. Our sleep cabin was clean, quaint, and had a beautiful view of lake millinocket. The inn sits right at the entrance of Baxter state park and so many things to do both on and off property. Truly a New England gem. Loved the restaurant. We can’t wait to be back!

We won a free camping stay at the RV and camping show for this place and just used it this past weekend. We absolutely loved this place and plan on coming back hopefully next year. The campsites were very nice and spacious and wooded in between, which was awesome! The campground was pet friendly, which is a must for us. The bath house was very clean and there is a nice big sink to wash your dishes. Thanks for a great experience, can't wait to come back and maybe try out the cute cabins!
