We did a class exercise with our youth class providing them with several different scenarios that forced them to defend either themselves or a loved one. We also gave them situations with friends along to assist.

Since 1974, the Midwest School of Isshinryu Karate has helped Fox Valley parents raise happier, healthier, safer kids through its affordable karate classes. Master Smith started his martial arts training in Isshinryu in 1972 under Sensei Patrick Buckley.

Our school's goal is to help you achieve and exceed all your martial arts goals. We do this through the teaching of traditional Isshinryu karate. We strive to provide you with training that will grow your understanding of bunkai, kumite, weapons and self defense. All MSOI students in K-12 MUST maintain good academic standing in their school to remain a member of our classes.

I started at MSOI 10 years ago with Sensei Smith. I liked the idea of learning real, traditional karate at a non-profit school. Little did I know how much karate and martial arts would change my life. I used to be really shy and let people step all over me. That is no longer the case. Besides Sensei Smith's extensive knowledge of Isshinryu karate, he is also a wonderful role model and very accommodating based on individual needs. I would encourage more adults to give it a try. It will improve your life, and could very well save it one day.

I took my kids here and loved the learning techniques that were used and I also loved the fact that he made sure my kids had the homework done and that their games were intact. Not only did my kids attend, but I did myself too and I loved it and the workout. I would highly recommend this to anyone whether young or older it’s a nice and welcoming environment

My family absolutely love Midwest School of Isshinryu Karate! Sensei Smith is an excellent instructor and the classes are the right amount of time and consistency and packed with teaching. He makes room for each age group and makes everyone feel welcome. Sensei’s passion for teaching and his knowledge of this martial arts style is apparent in each class. My family recommends MSOI to all families in the communities.

Since the 80's to present day. Mr. Smith has been such a positive influence on my life as well to those in my family involved with M.S.O.I.. To this day in my career as a law enforment officer many lessons have been a guiding light in some hectic situations physically and mentally. Mr. Smith is plethora of knowledge and I would definitely recommend that if you are in the area to stop by and inquire about M.S.O.I. and how it can be beneficial to you as an individual or your family as a whole.
