Dr. Valerie Mukanga received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. Following her graduation, she completed a General Practice Residency program at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital in New York City. Dr. Mukanga was one of the evacuees from Hurricane Katrina. During that tragic time, various people from the DFW helped her back on her feet.

The pulp, or living part of the tooth, is made up of nerves and blood vessels. It is contained in the pulp chamber, a space inside the center of the tooth, which holds the pulp and extends into the roots.

Recent research has shown that the bacteria present in gum disease are also found in the plaques clogging arteries in people with heart disease.
