Here at David Deaton Karate Studios, we first opened our doors for business in 1970, making 2020 our 50th year in business! We humbly thank you for allowing us to serve the communities of Middle Tennessee by providing a safe and secure environment for teaching self-defence to children, teens, and adults over the past half century.
And we look forward to seeing what our futures together will hold. Children from 6-9 years of age love our karate classes! We teach both boys and girls instill the benefits of self-defense and respect into every karate class. Our instructional karate classes for Juniors (ages 9-14) help build strength, self-respect, and the confidence young adults need to face life challenges.

David Deaton Karate Studio is the premier martial arts karate school in Mt. Juliet, Hermitage, and Lebanon for Wado-Ryu Karate training featuring the single-largest training floor in the South! We provide a safe and secure teaching environment for children, teens, and adults to benefit from our curriculum which builds character, confidence, respect, and self-discipline.
As a parent and business owner, I understand how busy your life can be and the challenges of juggling work and all of your kids activities. It's not easy. Karate classes are separated by age group and skill level so there are multiple class options to choose from. And if you miss one, our schedule includes opportunities to make them up.
There's one thing all the karate students who have graduated to Black Belt have in common - they all began their journey as a white belt. Please take a look at what some of our parents and students have said about our karate training. Best place for my son. He was 5 years old when he begin his classes now he is 15 years old.
One of the most common questions we hear at David Deaton Karate is, "How young can a child be to start learning karate?" The short answer is, children as young as four years old can start learning karate in our Little Dragons karate program. That said, we have a qualifying process that every child goes through to ensure they are ready to go through our program.
Over the last 50 years, David Deaton has developed a curriculum that has been proven to be easily learned and mastered but, more importantly. We expect our summer camp classes to fill quickly and we want to include your friends or other family members first. Thank you for your interest but enrollment for our special 2021 Summer karate camps have closed.

Our experience at this school was not good. We never felt that belong to this school. My child used to enjoy karate however stop enjoying it because of instructor at this place. Just because we look different we were treated differently. “ comment from his instructor- he likes to put up a show for his classmates”. He was pulled over from class so many time just because smiling at other children. I would never recommend this place to any of my friends. I attempted to resolve the issue with instructor and owner of this place however they would not care about our concerns. I hope no other child

My family has been taking karate at the David Deaton Karate Studio in Brentwood for a little over 4 years. For at least 3 of those years we were paying tuition for 3 students who were all in the Black Belt Club and by my calculations we have paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $15,500 over those years; so, we were very good customers. My son started as a Little Dragon when he was just under 5 years old and has been taking lessons for 4 years. He is a black belt candidate with over 300 classes and has participated in the required 4 tournaments. Other students meeting these criteria got approval

My son has been attending David Deaton Karate Studios since 2012. The self discipline and skills he has learned from this team has changed him from a hyper active and unorganized child to a totally respectful young man. Mr Spence has done wonders with him! All of the instructors are wonderful, and we love the new Lebanon location!

I took lessons at David Deaton for over 4 years, and I must say that I loved every minute of it! The instructors are fantastic and extraordinarily devoted to their students, and every class introduces some new variation of technique (While still building on the fundamentals).
In my opinion, David Deaton is THE dojo to train at!
