After graduating from UC Berkeley with a degree in journalism, I came home to Los Angeles and enjoyed a career in feature film development. We made some fun movies-like the near-Academy Award-nominated The Fast and the Furious films, Not Another Teen Movie, and Cruel Intentions-and some terrible ones for which I secretly fear I may someday be karmically punished.
I was indoctrinated into acupuncture by an amazing teacher who thankfully never once said to me, "I better see some koi fish and a water feature in your office someday.". I knew early on that I wanted to use the acupuncture studio itself as part of the healing that happens at Poke.

The studio is on the north side of Sunset Boulevard between Curson and Stanley, on the same block as Bonhams auction house. It is the big white storefront with the black door.
Parking options include the gated parking lot around the corner on Stanley (text your practitioner to open the gate); two-hour street parking until 6pm on both Stanley and Curson; plentiful meter parking on Sunset and its side streets; and yellow "loading only" parking after 6pm and all day on Sunday.

Portia and Poke Acupuncture are changing my life and that's after my first visit today. I was a little nervous about the whole thing but as soon as I met Portia I knew I was in good hands. I didn't feel rushed we chatted about why I wanted to try acupuncture, we about my pain, and how it's affecting me and my sleep. Then Portia explained what was happening and what she was going to do step by step before she left the room to get undressed then came back in and began to place the needles on my back, ankles, knee, neck and I think behind my ears. I really didn't feel anything

Amazing. I've always been skeptical about eastern medicine being practiced in the states... I'm glad I finally checked this place out. The real deal, real understanding, and real relaxation.
I was shocked to hear Russell didn't study in Asia but in SM, he's that good. Hope the practice continues to amaze. I'll be bringing folks for sure and sending out my "omg it works, check this place out" texts to friends and family. Wish they had deep Chinese massage or Tui Na , that additional option for a visit would be amazing.

Portia is a true pleasure to work with as she is approachable and highly attentive. She explains everything in great detail and truly listens to any issues to provide the best form of individualized treatment. Overall the space is very calm and private which is great for relaxing during treatment. I tried acupuncture on a whim and the compassion and results I received from Portia keeps me coming back.

First, this space is incredible! I have seen Portia Wilson a number of times and she is heaven sent. I was immediately placed at ease from her calming, radiant energy alone; but most importantly, she does an excellent job of explaining the treatment and is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to the science behind acupuncture.
Portia also does an excellent job of checking in through the process, and is keenly responsive to any feedback. Every experience with her leaves me feeling reset and recharged, which is a testament to her skills and abilities. All in all, every experience here is memorable

I am very experienced with acupuncture, and it has been the only treatment that has relieved and virtually cured my lower back pain after I in a car accident a few years back. Was a virgin to the acupuncture world so decided to give it a try. This is by far one of the best experiences I've ever had. A little different in the beginning but once the energy starts flowing you suddenly understand.

I went to Poke for my first acupuncture appointment ever, and it was absolutely incredible. Alex is professional, comforting, and funny. She immediately put me at ease, and I felt like I was in totally capable hands. The session was out of this world - it's truly impossible to explain (the review that mentioned being in outer space is spot on). I left feeling fantastic, and the effects lasted for days. Alex followed up the following day to see how I was responding to the treatment, and I really appreciated how available and communicative she was. I highly recommend going to Poke!

When I was referred to Russell I was told he was a Jedi Master. It was true, thankfully! I first saw him a few years ago for a stomach ailment that western medicine could not identify even with the most advanced and expensive medical equipment and facilities in California. Since my ailment couldn't be identified there was no hope for curing. I spent thousands of dollars with no help in sight. I went to other acupuncturists before him and had very subtle results. Yup, 5 Stars... Russell's treatments really ARE as good as it gets. His holistic philosophy is Eastern--something I really appreciate--but his treatment space and vibe is hip and Western. The combo is something completely unique and authentic.
He starts treatments by getting a rundown of what's happened to you since your last session to get clues about what might be happening to you emotionally and physically. And the actual sessions are thorough, soothing, and effective!
Every treatment leaves me feeling like a million bucks and keeps the aches and pains away that most people usually

I love Russel so very much. He is always completely present during our conversations - he actually listens to what I have to say before taking my pulse, etc! That is, sadly, a rare thing. The office is beautiful - interesting, but very calming.
Treatments are great. I feel energy moving as the needles are in place, and then I continue to feel clearing over the next few days. Each treatment has been different, but I can already feel it making a huge difference in my life.
