Divorce is defined as the legal separation of two people affected by the judgment or decree of a court, and either totally dissolving the marriage relation, or suspending its effects so far as concerns the cohabitation of the parties. Divorce and related legal matters can be overwhelming. If you're going through a divorce, you probably have a lot weighing on your mind.
Child support is court-ordered funds to be paid by one parent ("obligor" or "payer") to the other parent ("obligee" or "payee") of a minor child after divorce (dissolution) or separation. Usually, the dollar amounts are based on the income of both parents, the number of children, the expenses of the custodial parent, and any special needs of the child.
Each party in a divorce is considered to have contributed equally to the production of marital income. At Susan J. Lax R.N., M.S. LLC, our attorney more than three decades of legal experience and can help you determine a reasonable support obligation or to modify an existing obligation. The income of the parties from all sources, including, but not limited to, income gained from property divided, disbursed or distributed.
