A Sleepy Eye St. Mary's High School graduate, Alissa continued her education at the University of Minnesota where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. She then focused her legal studies on elder law and justice at William Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul.
During her studies; she was named an Elder Justice Scholar and was the first William Mitchell student to place in the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys' student writing competition.Alissa grew up on a dairy farm near Sleepy Eye, where she spent her summers baling hay, picking rocks, and playing softball at the nearby Stark ballpark.
