This type of sign is generally larger in size. Subdivision signs, development signs, city entrance signs, school signs, business signs, and restaurant signs are good candidates for this type of sign. Freestanding signs that are 10 or more feet wide are considered monument signs. To give the impression of permanence and stability, 2, 3 or 4, 6" X 6" cedar posts are grouped at each end.
Strata provides either natural wood or composite signs. Cedar or redwood signs are always sandblasted because chipping and warpage can occur in the routing process. Sign quality redwood lumber is limited in supply and requires special ordering. It is also slightly higher in cost. Sign panels for cedar signs are composed of individual boards, laid up side by side and edge glued to achieve the desired panel size.
How do I determine the size and type of sign I need? Examine your building's site. High visibility is the most important factor in the placement of your sign. Subdivision signs with adequate space usually install freestanding signs at main entryways. Business signs housed in larger buildings can opt for wall mounted signs.
