Most of us want to be good people who have our needs met and enjoy our family and friends. Most of us, it seems, struggle to get there. We need a little help, maybe someone to just listen and help us think things through. Maybe we need some "life coaching" from someone who knows what it's like to struggle yet keep going.
Or maybe we are in serious trouble and really need professional help. That's why Jomo Counseling is here. Taking that next step of hope is scary for most of us. It requires either courage or desperation, maybe both. We hope the information provided here will help relieve some of your concerns and help you to take that crucial step forward.

For 24 years, Mark Liston has practiced Christian counseling in Joplin through ICP (Institute of Counseling Prayer). Literally thousands came for help during that time. Counseling goes by many names: "Getting professional help, " therapy, life coaching, mental health services, or "seeing a shrink." It also comes in many flavors: Analysis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Reality Therapy, Christian Counseling, hypnosis, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and many others.
JoMo Counseling is a non-profit organization and suggests a donation rather than charges a fee. The IRS declares that any donation for which services are received is not tax-deductible. If a non-family friend or organization is paying for your counseling, the donation will be tax-deductible for them.
We at the Institute of Counseling Prayer welcome you as a client. In order to answer your questions concerning office policies, please read and sign the following. In almost every case, the counselor will keep material discussed in counseling sessions completely confidential. First, if the client faces legal proceedings, the opposing attorney may request and the judge may grant a subpoenae of the counselor and/or your records. In such cases, the counselor is required by law to surrender the documents or be jailed.
