Services
I am a licensed psychologist in Helena, MT. I am the owner of Montana Counseling and Assessment, PLLC and a faculty member at Carroll College. I have been working to support children, adolescents, and their families for more than 17 years. Throughout this time, I have worked in settings ranging from maximum security youth corrections to chronic illness clinics and public high schools.
At this time, I primarily provide individual and family counseling services to children and adolescents. I do not deny anyone service based on race, color, sex, national origin, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or inability to pay. I accept payment from Blue Cross Blue Shield, Allegiance, Cigna, Aetna, PacificSource, and HMK+.
I offer a variety of education and training services, drawing inspiration from my own experiences, education, and research. Although I provide trainings on a wide variety of different topics, I am most often requested to provide education related to trauma-informed care, strengths-based intervention, child/adolescent development, and autism spectrum disorders.
I can be reached at (406) 459-2931. When you call, you may reach administrative staff or a confidential voicemail. Please be prepared to leave a message with your name, phone number, and best times to contact you. It is not necessary to leave your concerns or treatment needs in your message. Our initial conversation may take anywhere between 5 and 20 minutes, depending on your questions and initial concerns.
I conceptualize and work with trauma-exposed youth (as well as educating their care providers) within the framework of The Four Assumptions - a therapeutic perspective that I developed while working in maximum-security youth corrections.
These "assumptions" are intended as a reminder that children do not desire dysfunction or relational discord - but rather that their challenges are a reflection of the lessons taught to them by previous experience.I have shared this framework with school districts and clinical personnel across the Western United States, with positive results related to child outcomes, provider attitudes/optimism, and effective relationship-development.
