The Animal Hospital of Emporia was opened in 1995 by Dr. Tom Grenell and Dr. Kay Lawrence. Dr. Grenell enjoys all aspects of a small animal hospital, with a particular interest and proficiency in soft tissue surgery. In 2020 Dr. Grenell retired from practice and The Animal Hospital of Emporia was taken over by Dr. Qingling Chen BVM.
The Animal Hospital of Emporia began with a strong understanding of the importance of the bonds between our human clients and their animal companions. Our philosophy in 1995 was that our business would not be driven by money, with the idea being that if we offered a high level of veterinary care combined with excellent client services, the money would take care of itself.

Services
She is our Hospital Manager and has been working as a Veterinary Technician for about 23 years. She has 1 cat named Wiggles, and 1 dog named John. Melanie Powell has lived in Emporia all of her life and has been married to the love of her life for 37 years. She has two grown children, Carl and Caitlin, her daughter- in-law Kelli and two wonderful grandchildren Mackenzie and Emerson.
They have seen the birth of my babies and the loss of my four legged babies. Through it all the staff at the Animal Hospital, have showed love, compassion and genuine kindness to me and my pets over the 20 years they have been in Emporia. I truly believe they are a blessing to our community. Thank you all, love you guys!

My teenager rescued a stray and I called vets in Rocky Mount and Roanoke Rapids to get it examed. Make sure he got rabies shot etc. The other vets were all charging double for shots and other services what Animal Hospital of Emporia charged. I couldn't have afforded it. Emporia's staff is super! I appreciate that they're affordable prices and care. Not to mention they saw our little stray same day we found him whereas others said they couldn't see him for week or longer. I didn't want to wait that long to find out if it had rabies. Felt so much better welcoming little guy knowing he had be vaccinated

Took my son's cat here for a serious emergency after being seen at another vet. They saved his life!!!!!!!! The other vet charged a fortune to almost kill it and they had a lot of care and compassion about the situation and for my son's cat. Thanks to Them my son didn't lose his baby!!!!

This veterinarian has switched hands. I made an appointment to get my dogs cherry eye fixed. They gave me an estimate on how much it was gonna cost. I asked him what did I need they told me. But when I got there they told me something different. Mind you I drove two hours to get there. I would not recommend this veterinarian. Awful customer service
