The salsa, the salsas. Costa Messa's incredible salsas set it far apart from the average Mexican restaurant. Add their absolutely classic preparation of Mexican dishes, and you're in for an authentic Mexican-food experience, the likes of which diners usually have to cross the border to get. Cooks were tight-lipped about revealing exactly what goes into Costa Messa's salsas.

The service is excellent but the food really lacks. To be fair, I had the Mexican Plate which is a ground beef taco, a tostada, two cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. I wanted to try a basic dish that hardly anyone can mess up and this plate disappointed. They use blah tasting red tortillas for the taco and tostada which is just done for looks and the taco had hardly any flavor. The enchiladas were also very basic and what can you say about rice and beans, they were the same as you can get anywhere in town. In general, this is mexican food that you can get in a cafeteria like Golden Corral

I love the chips and salsa they bring out in the beginning, plus a cup of caldo. The plate I get is not listed. There's a plate of shrimp with chipotle. There is no option for grilled fish with chipotle, but they are always willing to accommodate. The plates are big, so I always have leftovers. I recommend.

Had Tlalpeño soup and it was so salty!!! Had to take home and add a chicken broth-low sodium-to it to take care of the salt!
Too many restaurants add so much salt to the foods.
Hopefully this was just a bad day for the cooks in the kitchen.
I'll come back, but if the food is over salted again, I'm returning it and asking for a refund. Sorry, not sorry.

We went to eat here a couple weeks ago and everything went really well! The place was full and had about a ten minute wait. The chips and salsa's were fantastic and our waiter was great. He was very friendly and came to the table in a timely manner for refills etc.
For our appetizer we had a choriqueso and that was fantastic. The caldo that we got before our meal was also great. The broth had great flavor. For our mains we had the Mexican platter and the cheese enchilada plate. Both were very good and definitely something that we will get again. The only complaint I had was that the sweet

A few years ago, at the recommendation of a coworker, I decided to try Costa Messa. Said coworker and I visited the location near the mall, and we had a delicious meal at that location.
Fast forward to today, a few years later. The location near the mall is now permanently closed, so I opted to patronize this location and hoped for a repeat delicious meal with a group of coworkers.
Upon walking in I visited the restroom before the meal. Unfortunately that set the mood for the rest of the experience, as the bathroom was disgusting. I'll spare the details, as we are going to be talking about

Cousin recommended Costa Messa for dinner. We were seated with minimal waiting. The chips brought to the table were nice and crisp. Three different sauces for the chips, all were very good. The beef enchiladas I ordered were excellent. Rice and beans that came with the enchiladas added to the overall flavor of the dish. Highly recommended.

Just a few miles north of the Mexican border, more Mex than Tex-Mex.
I had the Costeño, a seafood dish.
Fish and oysters with fried shrimp. Also the Panchos de Camarón were very nice.
Everything with nice local vegetables.
Recommended by the locals, confirmed by a visit, try it.
A very unique part of the USA, predominantly Hispanic, but very "American". Enjoyed the area.

I'll start by saying that I love the soup they give you as a starter with the chips and salsa . It's full of veggies and so good. Love the variety of salsas they put on the table, something for everyone. I ordered the Jalisco plate which consist of two green enchiladas and two flautas and rice and beans with a little faux. They weee good, nothing especial about it. I ate my whole plate. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant and the staff was great!

Had dinner here the other evening for a birthday. I order the enchiladas poblanas which comes with rice and beans is topped with mole. It was okay. Most likely wouldn't order it again but was worth a try. My wife, however, got the fajitas and they were tasty.
The restaurant was lively, almost every table was occupied. The hostess and servers were friendly and attentive. Food came out faster than expected given how busy it was. Would I go back? Likely during happy hour.

One of my favorite places to visit while in the Rio Grande Valley.
Delicious food, fair price and exceptional service.
One of the way I always judge a Mexican restaurant is by the quality of the flour tortillas and if they're "made in house".
Needles to say I was not disappointed!
The tortillas are delicious and fluffy!
Definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for good Mexican food!

My wife and I heard this was a great restaurant and decided to go for date night.
The hostess promptly seated us and our server, Carlos, was also very prompt. We hadn't even had a chance to look at the menu when he came up, introduced himself and asked for our drink orders and suggested an appetizer.
We ordered our usual, iced tea, and a queso fundido appetizer. In the meantime we were served tri-colored chips and three salsas from which to choose: mild, hot and hotter. The salsas were great on the chips. The lime wedges were a plus.
We both ordered the Fajita Tampiqueña meal and
