Dave's Auto Repair was established by David Robinson, a fourth-generation Nevada City native, in 1989. The shop was initially located at the old Shell Station on Union Street. Now, you can find us at 747 Zion St - right up the street from SPD Market. We also have a second shop, Muffler & Brake Barn, that opened 2 doors down at 795 Zion St.

The water pump is driven by a belt, chain or gear and only operates while the engine is running. It has a limited life span and sooner or later will have to be replaced. You can check your owner's manual to find out how long your water pump should last. Some can fail at only 40,000 miles, or 65,000 kilometers, but almost all of them fail by 100,000 miles, or 160,000 kilometers.

When the breaks of our Honda CR-V began squealing we began calling around for service. Leaving a message at various repair shops, the first one to respond was Dave's Auto Repair; with a couple not returning my call for several working days. The appointment was made for the next working day. We dropped our car off late Sunday evening and picked it up late Monday evening, fixed and ready to drive safety. They were graciously more than willing to work with us to fit within our schedule for both repair and payment. I highly recommend Dave's Auto Repair based on my experience with them

Wow, guess I was another of the lucky ones! heh Maybe some of these reviews dealt with former issues and reviews are mostly older.
I had a smog check and all went smoothly. I volunteer at Hospice Thrift across the street and dropped it off - very convenient.
Dave was great and I ran into ZERO issues. I hope, if anyone else had any problem that they reported it directly to Dave...

Had my air conditioning fixed here a few months ago and had no issues. They even were nice enough to drive me home since I lived a few blocks away. Called today for an oil change and the guy who answered the phone was exceptionally rude - reading reviews looks like I'm not the only one who has encountered the extremely ignorant man on the phone. He answers "What do you want". And then hangs up on me since I was a bit taken back by his abrupt attitude. Then I call back saying "Hey I think you hung up on me ..." and he again hangs up on me ! Won't be going back to this

Wow, I guess I didn't read all the reviews before I went in, looks like I was one of the lucky ones. I think I was working with Dave himself, and he was surprisingly friendly and cheerful. They took my car in for the smog check Right when they said they would, did the job and had me out of there in a reasonable amount of time. I had a couple other interactions with Dave while I was waiting and he was consistently extremely friendly.

The guy Dave was really unfriendly. My car battery died and I got a tow truck to jump start my car. For some reason it wouldn't jump start, so I had it towed to Dave's auto repair to fix it. He was really short and dismissive over the phone. When I went to pick up my car, I asked him what was wrong with it. He told me he already told me over the phone. But what he told me obviously didn't make sense because it didn't explain why the tow truck couldn't jump start my car. He started explaining to me how a battery works like I was a two year old. I was like, "oh, okay

Dave, Fred and Gerald were professional, curtious, efficient and friendly. I was 10 minutes late getting to them after leaving work for my smog inspection appointment and it was not a problem. The smog was done in less time than was estimated and they thanked me for my business. Dave even used my name when thanking me. Personal touches like using my name are important to me and go a long way. I will be back for my vehicles regular maintenance.

I called ahead to make sure they could fit in an oil change for my Subaru today. I showed up 30 minutes after I called like we agreed, and they told me they were too busy and to come back in a few days.
When I mentioned that I called ahead on the phone and confirmed they could change my oil today, Dave simply shrugged his shoulders, didn't apologize, and stated "I can't help you today".
This experience still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If you value a pleasant and reliable customer experience, take your business elsewhere.

I came in here for a Smog Test and I let them know about the make and model of my van. When I showed up, the Rude mechanic Fred, told me he would "need" to charge me an extra 1/2 hr or like $50 to do the test. Wasted my trip, how lame. He did not stand behind his agreement with me over the phone, where he quoted me a price.

My car was towed to Dave's from up the hill. I was charged $90 for a diagnostic and then was told that it would take another $90 to find out what the problem is. Dave's never found the problem - had to pay for another tow to go the last 40 miles home. It was very big of them to only charge me $90 - hey wait they never told me what was wrong. What the heck - it seems to me that if you pay for a diagnostic that you should get a diagnosis. The car was taken to a Ford dealership who found the problem in a half hour. It was a blown fuse. Gees - I am not sure that Dave's can fix
