Many people are afraid or uncomfortable going to the dentist. Sedation dentistry offers pain-free and anxiety-free dental procedures for patients who fear dental procedures, fear needles, have difficulty with their gag reflex, have very sensitive teeth or have difficulty becoming numb from oral injections.
Clenching and grinding (bruxism) are habits that develop early in life. It is our way of relieving stress. Unfortunately, the habit can take its toll on our teeth, our muscles and our temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Bruxism is common in a great majority of the population. Symptoms range from broken teeth to temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD).
Dr. Glenn Rutherford's first dental visit: I still remember my first dental visit. I was five and my parents took me to see their elderly dentist. He glanced in my mouth and said all was well. By next check up time he had retired. My new dentist found a mouth full of cavities (which had probably been there six months before).

We now use a diode laser for many dental procedures formerly performed with a scalpel or curette. The benefits are many. With a laser, there is little or no bleeding during and after the procedure. More importantly, there is less discomfort following the procedure. Gingival Curettage is an especially exciting new procedure which is another step toward treating the ravages of periodontal (gum & bone) infections.

My husband woke up in the middle of the with terrible tooth ache. We were vacationing in Pagosa Springs and did not know where to go for help. Wyndham Pagosa referred us to Pagosa Smiles. We were so pleasantly surprised at the warm reception of Dr Rutherford’s staff. He saw my husband immediately. Long story short my husband was relieved of worry and pain. Dr Rutherford is very reasonably priced. We strongly recommend him for dental care.

At my age, I never thought about getting braces again, but after visiting pagosa smiles and being comfortable with their staff, I went ahead and followed through with the fast braces.
