These classes are for vaccinated adults, and proof of vaccination is required. Come and train with us! Classes are held 5 evenings a week, and Saturday mornings. Special seminars (gassuku) typically start during a Friday evening class, with subsequent classes throughout the weekend. Read Sensei encourages his students to explore their own Aikido practice.
For this reason Northcoast Aikido has a large roster of instructors, whose differing styles complement each other. Recommended readings for detailed information about Aikido, its history, and philosophy. There is also a list of dojos in other cities for those of you who want to train while you are traveling.

At Northcoast Aikido we strive to offer a broad spectrum of pathways through which an individual can explore Aikido. To that end we have a large teaching staff who rotate through the schedule. After a period of study of traditional karate, J. Thomas Read Sensei began formal Aikido study in 1969 as a way to broaden and deepen his study of Zen meditation.
Please join us on the mat with Tom Read Sensei for a weekend of intensive training. All levels of Aikidoka are welcome. After over 40 years of teaching and training in Aikido, Read Sensei has deep insight into the nature of human existence, and is very gifted in his ability to explain how the study of Aikido helps in one's understanding of it.
These are guidelines for test preparation, however do not be surprised if you are asked to demonstrate a technique not on this list during an exam. The only preparation for that is regular, consistent training. Also remember, each exam builds on the skills learned for the previous exam. Students testing for a given Kyu rank are assumed to be familiar with the ukemi for that rank.
