Apex Green Roofs Inc. has had the opportunity to work on some amazing residential green roof projects. These tend to be our favorites because each residential project is unique. Variables particular to location - such as sun and wind exposure, seasonal rainfall, native vegetation, and soil depth determine the most viable plant choice.
As part of a pilot green initiative, Northeast Utilities decided to install a vegetated roof along with a number of green technologies at their corporate headquarters in Berlin, CT. This green roof is Apexs' first roof established from pre-grown sedum mats (similar to sod) giving the roof a "full-grown" appearance immediately following construction.
Situated in the beautiful community of Jamestown, RI this vegetated roof is part of the new LEED certified administrative building for Environmental Packaging International (EPI). EPI was interested in creating a usable space that provided views of the harbor while having a positive environmental influence.
This project was not built by Apex Green Roofs, but has since become a success story in green roof revitalization. The green roof was designed to have stripes of blue-green and yellow-green species. The design had an immediate visual impact, but required extreme maintenance to stay in keeping with the design.
