In 1967 Richard T. Saunders broke ground on the Richard T. Saunders Funeral Home at 495 Park St. in New Bedford. This funeral home was a large spacious facility with ample off street parking centrally located in the West End of New Bedford. In 1985, Daniel F. Dwyer, a well-respected local funeral director, merged his funeral home with Richard's to create the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals.
Our mission is to offer the finest selection of service available to families; whether it be simple or modest, burial or cremation, services in your home or ours. The "funeral" has seen many changes in our society and faces many more, however we feel that the death of a family member or close friend has always been a significant time in all our lives.
The death of a loved one is the most stressful event in anyone's life, and yet decisions still need to be made. The manner of service and the merchandise must be selected. With guidance and compassion we are able to offer you some peace of mind in an emotional and trying time, while handling all the technical details of the funeral.
Although cremation dates back to ancient times, it has only recently become a more common choice throughout the United States. People choose cremation for a variety of reasons. Some do so based on environmental considerations. Others have philosophical or religious reasons. Many people believe that choosing cremation means limiting your options.
Pre-planning a funeral has many benefits to both you and your family. It clearly expresses your wishes ahead of time, allowing your family to complete the funeral arrangements you desire. You can lessen the emotional and financial burden of your survivors during a sorrowful time. Your funeral plan is completely transferable.
