I don’t type this review lightly I can’t understate this place is nasty. Should have left when we walked in but I’m always up for an adventure ,I should have went with my initial reaction, Watching him cook in a dirty kitchen and prepare food was concerning, but the food just wasn’t good chicken was ok but beans were canned onions and peppers were raw very sweet just not good, and greens were worse they were crunchy not cooked and didn’t taste good, and the price wasn’t great either 14 dollars for a meat and two. But after eating there if it was free I wouldn’t go back

€¢Overall: loved the experience itself of being there and talking to the chefs and the waitress.
•More of a Family restaurant atmosphere which made it awesome.
•Very delicious and fulfilling food. We took the fried chicken.
•They might be a little bit slow.

Six stars for this place!

I had seen a segment on the Food Network and added it to our grinds list. Southern hospitality at its finest! The place was packed when we arrived, which we expected, so we sat at the bar. My mom loved the homestyle mix-match silverware and dinnerware. We were warned that the shrimp were spicy, so she shied away from those. We were also warned that the gravy on the biscuits was spicy, but I gave it a shot. The bacon/egg/cheese biscuit was to-die. The biscuit was huge.

She told Big Al that we were traveling, they hugged it out, and he gave each of us a hat.

The lovely host used Big Al's to cater for my premiere and the food was horrible. Everything was burnt with an exception of the bananna pudding, mac and cheese, rolls, and cornbread. Green beans tasted burnt, fried apples were over cooked and too soft, fried chicken was burnt, baked BBQ chicken was burnt, greens tasted lemony, pulled pork was totally burnt, and baked beans had a burnt taste. All guest came with an appetite and left with one as well. A REFUND WOULD BE GREAT for this young man.

Excellent, authentic food served by friendly faces without fail! Make sure they're open before you go, but it's a true Germantown standby that will not disappoint. Unless they're closed, in that case you will be disappointed.

Hidden away gem if you love southern food! Biscuits are delicious, hash was the bomb. Tiny place with only a few tables so be prepared to wait if it's busy. Hidden back in an old neighborhood but worth tracking it down! Thanks for a great breakfast AJ!

This is my favorite place to eat in Nashville, you would never know it from the outside or even the inside but the favor of the food and the friendly atmosphere of this Christian man shows his love of God, service to people and generation of great cooks and his family history, favor so good, it makes you think of grandma love, a family business dedicated to the graft of exceptional service and deliver the very best tasting experience of eating a meal. The serving size will please you, the price will delight you, your taste buds will dance all day. You're leave saying I love big Al's. And I'll be

Hole in the wall place open for breakfast and lunch in germantown. $6 goes a long way and ended up getting me eggs, hashbrowns, AND a biscuit. Super tiny place, so you may have to wait to get in. Staff is really friendly and the food is delicious. The black peppercorn parmesean biscuit is a 10/10.

AMAZING. Visited Nashville and heard this place was a must have - and it didn't disappoint! The owners are so kind, it was a busy morning and instead of making my party of 10 wait, they set up a table on their porch and let us eat there! The food was delicious and priced SO reasonably. Don't miss out on this place if you're in the area!

Like many of the restaurants in the area, this is part of a house, converted to a diner. This one was done on a budget, no A/C, tables inside and outside and a limited staff. Creature comforts aside, we enjoyed our meal here. Big Al is the only one cooking and knows his stuff. The homemade biscuits were amazing with perfectly crisp bacon and an egg over easy dripping over it all. They have a list of off menu specials on the board, I had the shrimp and grits and was not disappointed. They warned they are spicy, but it was a pleasant amount of heat. Clearly a lot of grease, and the shrimp wasn&apos

This is a genuine greasy spoon mom n pop business. Its not big inside, but they will do their best to accommodate large parties. We were a group of 12 and they were able to seat us outside. The food is delicious and the portions are large. We only went for breakfast and everything we tried was so good that we went back a second time. Would have gone more but their was other restaurants I wanted to try. We had biscuits and gravy, which was different but still delicious. The omelettes are amazing and the biscuits and soft and moist.

French toast, eggs and potatoes (freakin yummy), damn fine biscuit, good coffee, and chatting up the owner while eating. Here's an awesome small business to support!! Sorry I didn't take a pic...I started eating the moment it was put in front of me.

Good food, nice people and just all around a nice time. But please be warned , since i dont see many folks talking about it - you will wait unless for some weird reason no one is here. We live about 30 mins away and we get there about 20 mins before they open to get a seat and order. Also you will require a small nap after eating the food!

PROS: Cheeseburger was tasty, definitely a deli spot that has a neighborhood feel, you can tell from many regulars that come here and eat in the bar area and just catch up on life. From what I leaned they have been in the neighborhood for a long time so it's definitely a great local business to support.

CONS: I ordered on the phone, I said I wanted green beans he said you want greens? I said no I want green beans but I still ended up getting collar greens, which was fine except the collar greens tasted like it was soaked in vinegar over night ( I love vinegar but I still couldn't not

Great food... Fun spot to eat and mingle. We ordered one of Al's signature chicken plates, a fish sandwich and a pork special. All orders were off the chart! Tell Al he looks like Denzel and ya might get his big ol' smiles!

The food here is amazing, and that's not even the best thing about this place.
If you're considering going here to eat, do yourself a favor and stop considering. Just go. You will leave there feeling better than you did when you arrived, and to me that's the hallmark of any great restaurant.
The people there (Al and his family) are some of the biggest hearted people you'll ever meet. In our short stay we saw both regulars, and folks that came from several states away who'd heard about Al's from someone else.
You're home when you're here. I&apos

Incredible breakfast for an Amazing value. We picked up breakfast on a road trip through town and I'm so glad we found this place.
I'm not really a biscuit person, but Al's biscuits are moist, buttery and flaky. Full breakfast for under $7!!! Hash browns are creamy with a good crust and well seasoned.
It's hidden in what looks like a residential area, but worth finding.

The omelette was perfect, the bacon was incredible, the biscuits are like none I've ever had (in the best way) and the breakfast potatoes...oh the breakfast potatoes. I will dream about those tonight thank you for the best meal we've had on our visit to Nashville. The hospitality was top notch.

Big Al's isn't a restaurant , it's an experience. The food was incredible, inexpensive and the conversation was even better.

At one point, a man walked in asking for directions. Looked homeless, and Al asked him if he was hungry or thirsty. The man said he had no money, Al said no money needed and gave him a plate of food and a coke. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. It's a must.

What a pleasant food memory from our experience at big Al's deli! We got there right when it was closing, however, Big Al told us he would serve us anyway. Portions are very large and so delicious. Definitely a hidden treasure. Wait staff is patient and friendly. We are outside on a beautiful sunny day. Great food and people.

The biggest breakfast I've ever had for $6. And delicious!

The restaurant is tucked away in a residential neighborhood, but there is lots of street parking and the food comes out quickly - so if you order to go, you won't have to wait long.

Super friendly staff. Generous portions. Excellent value. Fresh ingredients. This is a "must try".

I sincerely wanted to love this place. Big Al was friendly and his waitress very sweet- though both alone and working as best they could with no other help.

But my waffles were dense, soggy, and cold. And my boyfriend's biscuits were very clearly burnt. Everything else but our eggs were like warm.

I'd tentatively try them again- but I would never go out of my way again to eat there. So disappointed.
