Aikido of Ashland, KY is a member of the United States Aikido Federation, Eastern Division. It was founded by Ariff Mehter Sensei, 7th Dan, Shihan, as KYOWVA Aikikai in 1980. Mehter Sensei is now located in Northern Kentucky, and is a member of Aikido of Cincinnati. Aikido of Ashland, KY is now under the direction of Tom Berry Sensei, 6th Dan, Shidoin.
We are a small dojo, in the hills of Eastern Kentucky, dedicated to the universal principles of the way of Aikido. Aikido was developed by a man named Morihei Ueshiba. People in the Aikido community refer to Ueshiba as O Sensei, which means Great Teacher. O Sensei trained in many traditional Japanese martial arts.
