The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that an orthodontist screen all children for orthodontic problems by the age of 7 years old. Orthodontic treatment may not be necessary at this early age, but early evaluation can give us a baseline for growth, missing teeth, and tooth eruption. Orthodontic emergencies are very rare.
Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that specializes in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. The practice of orthodontics requires professional skill in the design, application and control of corrective appliances to bring teeth, lips and jaws into proper alignment and achieve facial balance.
