Martial Arts Training Center
Look no further. We are a World Taekwondo Federation and USA Taekwondo affiliated school, one of very few in Northeast Ohio. We are expanding and always looking for new students! We invite you to drop in for a free class to see what we're really about. We specialize in practical self defense, which means we teach our students how to get away from kidnappers and attackers, rather than stand and fight with them.

Even though we are trained martial artists, we always seek the least violent solution to a situation. Our students learn to deal with bullies and sensitive situations. Many of our students have started at our dojang with attitude or behavioral issues, and they have all improved greatly. We have 2 certified, full time Black Belt Instructors and all of our classes are held 2-3 times weekly.

Taekwondo (/ti - kwon - do/) is a Korean style of unarmed defense, meaning Art of the Foot and Fist. Today, it is used by the South Korean military as part of training to decrease unnecessary use of weapons. Our style comes from South Korea and its date of creation is still at huge debate. It is believed that Taekwondo originated from Taekkyeon (/t'ae - kkyon/), which was started between 57 BC and 1st Century AD.
Each and every one of our students have special qualities that they bring to class. They show a great amount of camaraderie and respect for their fellow classmates regardless of age or rank. Korean Philosophy refers to Taekwondo students as Brothers and Sisters, and our dojang definitely reflects this.
Master Tom Ritchie began studying Taekwondo at the age of 40 with his two sons Tony and Sam. It became a true love affair as he has continued on to become a Kukkiwon Certified 5th Degree Black Belt. Kukkiwon is the governing body of the World Taekwondo Federation in South Korea. They are the same organization in charge of all Taekwondo participants in the Olympics.
Beginning of class: I will develop myself in a positive manner and avoid anything that could reduce my mental growth or physical health. I will develop self-discipline in order to bring out the best in myself and others. I will use common-sense before self-defense and never be abusive or offensive.
Please fill out all fields before sending your message. We are in the Town One Square Plaza behind Friendly's Restaurant, across 224 from Walgreen's. Some of our neighbors include: Consign & Design, The Stage Door, and Hannah's Closet. The Martial Arts Training Center specializes in olympic-style Taekwondo.

It's a great environment for the kids. I like how Master Ritchie is firm but never mean and doesn't talk down to them. The Austintown instructor, Miss S is mad talented and a great model for her students.

Master Ritchie is wonderful with the kids. He is completely devoted to teaching self defense to the students. My kids are 13 & 8 and they love going to class and I feel is has really helped to build more self confidence in themselves.
