All stylists at Jewel Hair Design are licensed cosmetologists (some of our stylist assistants are in cosmetology school) It is extremely important to make sure that the stylists you are booking for your special event are professionally licensed (if the state you are getting married requires), not only due to health and safety regulations but also to maintain the same professional environment that clients are accustomed to while visiting a salon.

So, I was a little torn when thinking about how to review Jewel Hair Design. They did an amazing job in my wedding hair trials, but ended up leaving me in the lurch when it came time for the actual Big Day. Lemme 'splain:
After glowing recommendations from several friends who had used Jewel HD for their own weddings, I booked with stylist Isobel for my January 23, 2016 wedding. I had a really great trial with her at their studio up in Ellicott City (which cost $100, not included in the cost of booking), giving me an awesome vintage-y wedding updo that I was super excited about. I tried to use Jewel for my wedding hair. Her assistant was so disorganized she could not book an appointment effectively and expected me to sign a contract before a trial. No phone number was available to clear things up. Eventually Jewel blamed me for my confusion due to she and her assistant's poor communication. Not how you win business. I would never use someone so disrespectful and disorganized for such an important event.

Such great work done by Jewel for our wedding day! I worked with Julie and Carly and they were amazing. My hair was beautiful and so was the other women in the wedding. They were both very professional but also very nice and accommodating. They worked with each individual person to make sure they got the style they wanted. Julie did my hair and made it into a masterpiece - I have short hair so I got extensions and the end product was unreal. All in all a wonderful experience and I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

Carly was my stylist from Jewel Hair Design and she did an amazing job. She did 8 peoples hair with Kali assisting her for prepping hair. Both Carly and Kali finished earlier than expected which gave us extra time for our preparation timeline. Throughout the planning phase, Carly, Julie, and Bella were responsive, very helpful, and professional working with me to coordinate hair and makeup schedules, logistics, provided suggestions, and etc.

Julie Flury, owner of Jewel Hair Design, is an extremely talented artist and wedding hair stylist. I did a trial hairstyle with her in her studio about 1 month before the wedding. I would highly recommend doing this to get to know her and figure out exactly what you want for your wedding day look. The trial was money WELL spent. She even helped me pick out hair combs and gave me a discount for purchasing them online.

I am booked to use Julie for my wedding next year. She is so flexible and very laid back. She will be doing an updo for my wedding.
I went to the trail and asked for a French twist. However, once I showed my sister the pictures, my sister told me to go for a more natural look. I contacted Julie and I asked her if she would be willing to change my style. I just sent her a picture of a potential updo, and she was willing to change the style in a heartbeat. Julie provided hair services for myself, my mom, and five of my bridesmaids. She traveled to us, which was a great benefit of working with her. Julie worked efficiently and meticulously, and everyone's hair looked perfect! I know that it was a long day for Julie because she styled another wedding party prior to us, but you certainly could not tell. I received several compliments on how amazing my hair looked and it also held up all night, even after hours of dancing.
