Services
A native of Albany, Georgia, Dr. Benson practiced general dentistry for more than 30 years, all of that time working, here, in Savannah, Georgia. Upon completing his studies at Young Harris College, Gerald Benson attended the University of Tennessee's College of Dentistry where he graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree.
Comprehensive dental exams and cleanings are recommended once every six months. These exams help identify tooth decay, or early signs of gum disease or oral cancer, through diagnostic X-rays and a physical examination. Early detection of these conditions helps ensure effective treatment and prevent permanent damage.
Cosmetic dentistry is concerned with the aesthetic appearance of your teeth and overall smile. Cosmetic treatments may seek to whiten stained teeth or use composite resin bonding to mask a chipped tooth. Goals can overlap with general dentistry. For instance, a porcelain crown can save a tooth with heavy decay, but the crowned tooth is now perfect cosmetically.
Kids have always loved extracting their own wobbly baby teeth. After all, the tooth fairy pays. But Dr. Tosto usually tries everything he can to keep a permanent tooth in the patient's mouth. Sometimes, however, extraction can be necessary when a tooth has too much decay to save it or when it's necessary to make room for other teeth in the patient's mouth.
