Gardens for Living is a landscape design, installation and maintenance company based in Asheville, North Carolina. After 30 years, we still have a passion for gardens, and we are still designing and installing landscapes that enhance lives all over Western North Carolina. Our company was founded by John Phillips in 1983, and fueled by the desire to create landscapes that are exceptional in form, function, and beauty.
John Phillips of Gardens for Living designed the exterior environment of our newly constructed home in Asheville, and transformed secondary growth woods into an informal garden that beautifully blends into the surrounding woods. The project involved contouring the land, artfully designing steps from rock, placing landscaping lighting and planting an abundance of perennials.

Gardens For Living is a landscape design, architecture, installation and maintenance company with the backing of a family-operated nursery as a source of plants and trees. We are passionate about good design, and we pride ourselves on creating landscapes that exhibit an expert use of color, texture, balance and scale, while staying true to the unique vision of each homeowner.
John Phillips and Gardens for Living completed a project at our mountain home including landscaping, building paths and a fire pit, improving a drainage problem, and building a large retention wall (done by his brother James). In all our interactions, we found John to be knowledgeable, creative and honest.

We are so pleased with the work John and his crew did for us. John's keen eye and the quality of workmanship was wonderful. They were dependable, professional and easy to work from start to finish. We had hardscape, landscape and a watering system installed for our home.

Incredible experience! GFL literally transformed our yard into an oasis that we enjoy the entire year. John, Shane and their staff were so easy to work with from design all the way through installation. The crews were tidy and enjoyable to have around. I plan to have them do more work this spring. Highly recommend.
