Today I attempted to bid on an item and bid the largest dollar amount listed online. Suddenly after indicating my bid was submitted, it was apparently rejected? I contacted Invaluable whose services I use. They informed me that the auction house accepted a floor bid although my bid was higher. I just didn't realize that is how it works with Hindman. I have been buying thru various auction houses for years but never encountered this issue. I will certainly avoid Hindman going forward.

This auction house has been an absolutely terrible experience. If you value your items, I would suggest looking for another auction to assist you. Their staff is friendly to begin with, and then it will be your job to chase them down for information or follow up. They do not return emails or phone calls. When I finally made a complaint regarding their lack of customer service, I was told "If you are not happy with the service you received, you are welcome to work with another company". The additional issues we had to deal with: They lost an accompanying item consigned with my designer handbag,

Buyer beware! Read all of condition details in the auction before bidding. A reputable auction house would only sell watches that work. Hindman also sells broken watches. Hidden in the condition is a subtle note that the watch is "not running" and that they can't determine if the watch will ever work.

Leslie Hindman staff disregarded 3 requests to see the artist's signature (verso) on an oil painting featured at one of their public auctions. They did respond to my initial emailed request, but only sent additional photos of the FRONT of the artwork (the artist's signature is on the BACK and I had specifically asked to see the back side of the painting to confirm its authenticity prior to bidding.) Follow-up messages by me as the auction start neared were ignored, and I never was able to see the artist's signature. To add insult to injury, when I threw caution to the wind and did submit an internet

Don't miss these auctions, prices are amazing and everything is guaranteed to be what it is. For furniture and artwork the deals are great. I suggest to go to the previews that are right before the auction. Don't forget there is also a 26% buyer's commission on whatever bid you place plus 10.25% tax.

Sure wish I would have read these reviews before participating on an auction with them. Their site doesn't accept credit cards, they are horrible with their customer service.
I was charged for something which they never even shipped. They never responded to my emails until I filed a claim with my credit card company and they initiated a chargeback.
I called the shipper and the item is still sitting on their shelves a month later.
Hindman said they are going to dispute my chargeback!!! Not sure how they can make me pay for something that I have never even received.

My experience with this auctioneer was anything but professional. I bought a pair of 18 kt. Gold earrings that I loved and when they arrived in the mail they were an ugly and far less expensive pair of earrings. When I called to notify them they were not apologetic in the least and told me I'd need to return them myself and once they were received I'd eventually be credited back.......WOW, thanks for nothing but a bit of headache, disappointment and lots of wasted time. I would not recommend or buy from them again!

I wish I had read the reviews before even making an attempt at contacting them. Supposedly they offer free appraisals by appointment and the dates/cities are listed on their website. However, over the course of the last month I have left two messages and sent an email with photographs and have never received a response. Don't waste your time.

I spent 2 grand sending my vintage jewelry collection to these thieves. The catalog was a disaster in every way and did not say what we had agreed upon. I don't know why they had me take 3 days and all that money to send my entire collection qhen they already hd photos and inexplicably listed only half the items and not even the best! I pulled the whole thing and they made me pay another $1k for the return. Ebay photos or my own would have been far better. The head of the dept called me when the pieces arrived to say what an astounding collection it was. The catalog crapped it out.

I recently purchased some jewelry from this place. The online pictures and description do not give full details of items. Upon receiving them I noticed that one stone is broken. I sent an email to them. Nobody respond to my inquiry. With a high price payment I would expect a better service from them. I would not recommend this auction house to anyone else.

Great auction house with many good pieces on a regular basis. Prices and bidding are genuine. Highly recommended! Worth checking out!
Much concern as of late though:
1.) Catalogs coming online only a few business days (4-6) before the auction is supposed to start. Not optimal for consignors or bidders.

Negatives:
1. Deceptive advertising with their catalogue listings that are posted on the Internet site "Liveauctioneers". All descriptions of the items where the screen Tab says "Details" are all with glowing descriptions. They deliberately will not publish whether or not the item has damages. This policy of theirs is followed when advertising all items on other bidding websites that are used to promote their auction items. It gives them the advantage to get higher bids when defects are not published. I recently bought an expensive grandfather clock from them and paid

For years, I've visited & purchased from Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, bringing my friends on numerous occasions. It's a hidden gem in the Chicago art world!
Attending their previews is a learning experience for us, as we're able to see hundreds of items, ask questions and research individual lots.
Truly, it's better than a museum, as the inventory is new each time. My favorite auctions are the Interiors, formally marketplace, as they have high quality items at attainable prices for an introductory collector and the art auctions, as we're able to inspect art more

This is why Yelp is so good. If I had read the reviews of this place I never would have engaged them. I am not wealthy or an auction guy but instead turned to this auction house to sell a few reasonably priced items and buy some as well. In short dealing with them is a disaster. I called several times to resolve the situation and they failed to call back as promised. I just called again and no one even answers the phone during regular business hours. Next time I will use Ebay as I know what I am getting into there.
