Steve Otto was born in Ohio to a Mennonite family whose family lineage of building trades originate as early settlers from Germany. Steve Otto Construction, like Germany, is well known for their "solid construction" and craftsmanship. At the age of 7, with just a little more than a suitcase for each family member, Steve and his family departed on a church mission to Paraguay.
In the deep jungles of South America, the family pursued its building roots while clearing jungles, building colonies, planting gardens, etc. in challenging and primitive conditions. The absence of electricity held a blessing for Steve as he learned to work and build with only simple hand tools, shaping the skills of an expert craftsman in the young boy.
