I suppose this is nothing new. Saint Paul tells us, "We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labor pains until now" (Romans 8). Tolstoy puts it this way: "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way" (Anna Karenina). Even Woody Allen says, "To love is to suffer" (Love and Death).
No matter how you describe it, many questions follow: Where is sympathy and comfort when I cry out for help? Is my pain shared by another, or am I the only one who feels it? Does anyone, even God, understand? We are the counselors at Ontario Counseling Center and we are on this journey with you. We may not have all the answers, but we both know from experience that suffering is best overcome with the help of another.
