Behrens Landscaping, Inc. was established in 1981 by Michael and Carrie Behrens. It was started as a landscape maintenance company and soon evolved to include all aspects of landscape services. We moved to our present location in October of 1989 and started the retail supply section of our business.
We service many residential and commercial properties in the northwest suburban area. We sell landscape supplies to area landscape companies as well as area homeowners. Use our mulch calculator to calculate necessary yardage. 1 yard of mulch covers approximately 100 sq. Premium Hardwood Mulch is a triple processed oak blend. This mulch is cocoa brown in color and does extremely well with keeping down the weeds due to its heavy weight. It is consistently the landscapers favorite.
Organic simply means without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage, genetically modified ingredients or ionized radiation. If you are looking for pesticide free topsoil you need to find a supplier that knows if pesticides have been applied and has the certificate to proof it. That can be very difficult and expensive.
One of the hot new trends in landscaping is edible gardens. Not only will you save money on your grocery bill but your family will have fun gardening together. An added bonus is that you can feed your family pesticide free fruits, vegetables and herbs. All that's needed is a small plot of land in a sunny location, just till and plant.
With the technology we have today it is easy to discover cool and interesting ways to landscape your yard. But just as you have been hearing 'buy local' for produce the same is true for stone. Each region of our country has rocks that are unique and plentiful. When starting out your landscaping projects, it is best to keep in mind that a stone that is not natural to the area will cost more and have a higher economical impact to bring to the area.
Closed topped vehicles such as SUVS, mini-vans, or large vans cannot be loaded with our front-end loaders for the bulk materials. We recommend renting a pick-up truck from your local hardware store if you need small loads of bulk material or call for delivery. Non-bulk material, such as cobblestone, sod, flagstone, seed, etc. can be hand loaded into vehicles.

Our family owned business had bought materials like top soil, river rock, grade 8 gravel when ever we are doing a job in the area during summer time. I went one time during the late night hours to load salt this week and they where very professional loading and everything. Went again yesterday and my father got off the truck and went in the office. He told me the lady at the front office was very rude and unprofessional. We went to the back to load some salt and an older mantold me he wasn’t selling me anything because he was saving it for his regular customers. With out asking our company
