President and CEO Robert W. Lyon II started King of the Painters Co, in 1975. He graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Marketing, with a Minor in Art. King of the Painters has evolved from a very small company to a company of 70 experienced and knowledgeable employees, due to the background derived from his Business Marketing and Art College Degrees.
King of the Painters is proud to offer a painter apprentice program for our employees. Our painters are trained and refined by our senior professional staff, many of which have over 40 years' experience in the industry. Our painter apprentices are trained with the master techniques of precision painting.
To minimize the inconvenience to you and your office staff, we provide after hours, and weekend crews to complete your painting project. Our mission is to take the "hassle and disruption" out of painting your space. Unlike the residential side of painting, commercial painting has different obstacles and constraints.

KOTP was on time every day, exceptionally detailed, extremely efficient, beyond helpful, exceedingly patient and the outcome showed! Daniel G was our point of contact when they came to our residence in Jamul to begin the job.
My wife and I were VERY confused to the color choices we made prior to KOTP arrival. (way too many choices and hues and shades) Daniel arrived and was helpful in every way possible and very patient which lead us to choose a color that was absolutely perfect. The King of the Painters crew just finished the interior of my 1800 sg ft house Since I hate reading long reviews, I'll keep it short. They said it would take 6 days, it took 5. Their crew starts at 7am and they were waiting out front at 6:30 every day and were great guys. I couldn't find one flaw in their work. All I can say it tat you would be crazy not to use this company!!

We got 3 quotes before moving forward with painting the exterior of our home. King of the Painters' estimate was not the cheapest quote (they were in the middle), but we were impressed with the initial presentation and the products they use. On top of that, they were referred by friends who were happy customers.
Overall, we had a fantastic experience. The crew showed up on time daily, were professional and cleaned up after themselves. The quality of their work was fantastic. I would definitely recommend King of the Painters!

This is my second review for this company. Previously I reviewed the job they did on exterior painting of our house.
Now for interior painting of our house: Holy smokes! These guys are fantastic!! KOP is not the cheapest company, but they are by far the best painters I've ever worked with in my 35 years as home owner and landlord of a rental house.

3/11/20. this is an update to the previous post. I met with the owner, Bob, this week to discuss the issues we had with the King of the Painters. He was very helpful and sincerely apologetic for the experience that we had. He offered to help us with getting the floors fixed in the places I pointed out to him. While I still think that some things could have gone better regarding communication and clean up, I am willing to recommend this company for your painting needs. I believe that they really do want their customers to be happy.

Alex and his crew were simply amazing! We just completed a large exterior paint project at my home in North Park. We have an older home, with lots of wood that needed significant prep work. The crew was extremely professional, on time, and did a phenomenal job! The whole job took over three weeks due to all of the detail involved in painting the siding, the deck, and all of the trim/windows. The guys were excellent! Multiple neighbors commented to me on how hard they were working, and how impressed they were with the attention to detail. Not the cheapest bid that we obtained, but as they say,

My husband and I decided to finally have the exterior of our home painted. Through recommendations from friends and neighbors we decided to go with King of the Painter's. When calling to get an estimate I was met with a very friendly staff! Leah in particular was wonderful in working with us and our schedule. Bob Lyon, our Estimator, is also the owner of the company. We had some idea of what we wanted but Bob really helped us to understand how best to bring our "vision" to fruition. 5/15/20 Update: I'm happy to say the King of the Painters did an excellent job today at completing the final touches on the project. Mike arrived and applied a third color to the garage doors, greatly enhancing the wood effect (photo attached). He agreed that when he drove up he could barely see any depth to the doors. There were two other workers with him who reapplied paint to the surrounding walls to clean and cover some areas. Thanks King of the Painters!

Alex and his team executed the paint job. I'm one to notice ALL the small details, so admittedly I asked for a lot from Alex, and he delivered. The house looks great. We were content with the old color scheme but when Bob came out for our color consultation he made some recommendations and we went with them; we couldn't be happier. The new color scheme is only subtly different but I feel it really helps the curb appeal. The foreman and workers were very professional and the work performed is exceptional. I tried to show some of the stucco repairs to some friends and they couldn't figure out what I was pointing at. The repairs were so masterfully completed and blended with the existing work they were literally invisible. The house looks

We hired King of the Painters to paint several rooms in our house a few years ago. We were extremely pleased our experience. Bob is great about offering suggestions without being pushy. Everyone--office staff, carpenter, project manager and the paint crew--were polite and professional. They communicate well, do what they say they are going to do, and are really concerned about customer satisfaction. And, the paint crew was fabulous about cleaning up after themselves!
